Duncan Jones' WARCRAFT Moved Far, Far Away From STAR WARS EPISODE VII's Release Date

Hollywood knows by now that you don't mess with Marvel, and you sure as hell don't mess with Star Wars! Perhaps that's why Duncan Jones' Warcraft has been delayed until 2016?

Disney declared war on Universal when they announced that J.J. Abrams' Star Wars Episode VII would be released on the same date as Duncan Jones' adaptation of World of Warcraft. Well, it's the latter who have now backed down as they've moved Warcraft back to March. The movie will be heavy on CGI, so it should also give them the time they need to ensure it looks as good as possible. Star Wars is now free to dominate December in 2015 unless Warner Bros. end up deciding to pit Batman Vs. Superman against them! The Mummy reboot also has a release date, while Seventh Son is now set to be released more than a year later than expected!

Pity. But yeah, I guess with all those big movies coming out in '15, there's not much room for competition. And I really want this movie to do well.

Even if the next Star Wars installment turns out to be a piece of crap its still guaranteed to dominate which ever month it opens up on. So good move by UNIVERSAL not Warner Brothers because you know there not producing the movie any more, WoW left the studio along with Legendary.

I don't have much hope for Warcraft, I wish I was but with the team behind it I just can't (Colin Farrel?!?)
Gusto fighting through Detroit on a Monday night would make for better entertainment.

@Josh Wilding

Jones is the only redeeming point this movie has right now, but I won't have any real idea until I see a trailer

They should make a Live-Action horror movie based on MINECRAFT starring Chris Evans as Steve, Ben Stiller as Billy the Zombie, James McAvoy as Hugh the Creeper, Will Smith as Skeletor the Skeleton, and Henry Cavil as Clark the Villager.

"Seventh Son should be direct to cable. It doesn't look promising."

I'm looking forward to Seventh Son because it reminds me of Beowulf, which shared a similar animation style. I really enjoyed the plot and the artistry a lot more than I expected to.

I used to play the game a long time ago the most interesting character was Thrall the movie should be about him and it would truly be original in concept. I mean when has there ever been a movie about a good Orc.

"Hollywood knows by now that you don't mess with Marvel"

That's why Sony placed Bond 24 on the same date as Ant-Man's original November 6th release date, dont think Ant-Man's still being released on November 6th 2015 after the announcement, but I jest.

I cant believe the studio is still going ahead with The Mummy reboot. I'm not happy.

I'm not really hyped about Warcraft but i do hope that the film will be good.

Perfectly good scheduling decision on Legendary's part. As far as WB goes, they could do a couple of things.

1: Release an "Oscar bait" picture since WB is always in the hunt for gold and has a pretty good track record.

2: Release a more adult targeted tent pole that will serve as counter programing to Star Wars and positioned to get viewers who are happy to see Star Wars one time only in theaters and want to move on to something else.

A good example of the second choice would be Sherlock Holmes which opened a week after Avatar came out. If I were WB,I would release Man From Uncle in December 2015 because A: Like Holmes, its also a Guy Richie film whose humor is targeted to an older demographic. B: It can take advantage of Henry Cavill's rising star which should be even higher after Batman vs Superman.

There's a neglected market of older movie goers who would go for a updated version of a famous 60's t.v. series and don't plan on seeing a Star Wars film 5 times at the mulitplex.
