A good director doesn't stay unattached to something for very long. With yesterday's bombshell of Spider-Man 4 being scrapped, where does that leave Sam Raimi? He has been looking at World of Warcraft for some time now but was hoping to do one more Spider-Man movie before launching into this potential game based franchise.

Here is an excerpt from Aint It Cool News:
Well, I chatted with someone that knows - and I feel confident in saying that the next film we'll see from Raimi is going to be WARCRAFT... which after AVATAR, the concept of world building that particular universe could be astonishing - especially in 3D - especially after what Cameron just unleashed upon the globe. World creating Science Fiction & Fantasy... done by visionary filmmakers ... well, it is a premium. We got THE HOBBIT coming, looks like an AVATAR 2... but the word I hear is that today - the phone lines were burning between a certain legendary locale and Raimi's folks about firing up the furnaces to forge the weapons of war.

The title of the movie is "Warcraft: Rise of the Lich King" from Legendary Pictures with a screenplay already written by Robert Rodat. In the wake of Avatar, this could be the next great world building franchise.

ROFL ... well there's fertile ground for a movie about this. Lots of story to tell.

I guess Raimi has to do SOMETHING with his free time now.

@Supahfreak: That's not Thor. That's a Paladin. It's kind of a knight with mystical powers.

I really wish they do a good WoW movie; there are so many interesting stories to tell. WoW universe is vast and magnificent full of mythological beings and dangers.

Iam really surprized no one has jumped on FORGOTTEN REALMS OR DRAGON LANCE STORY LINES. A Raistlin
Majere or Elminster would be great as well.

Even though I have personally burned myself out on playing WoW, I would watch a movie based on it with excitement. The possibilities for storyline and everything else are virtually limitless and could make for an extremely entertaining film franchise. The only thing I would really be worried about is someone (Whoever does the film) will repeat one of those storylines that have already been done a thousand times over,... Some kind of "Save the Princess" or some "Damsel in distress" storyline kind of thing or something. Make it original if it's getting made, and most of all, make it FUN & ENTERTAINING! :) Other than that, I wouldn't really care who makes the film, just make it FUN! :)

I am currently on hiatus from WoW, but will no doubt return soon. I have several level 80's and have played for years. The World of Warcraft is immense with so much rich story I wouldn't know what to begin to propose for film. I'd watch a hundred WoW movies.
