Production Has Officially Begun On The TOMB RAIDER Movie Starring Alicia Vikander

Avengers: Infinity War has started shooting today, but it's not the only big 2018 blockbuster to do so! Production on Tomb Raider has started and the director has shared a BTS photo.

Assassin's Creed wasn't the turning point for the video game movie genre most of us hoped, so now all eyes are on Tomb Raider. With production kicking off today, director Roar Uthaugh has taken to Instagram to confirm that production has officially begun and that no doubt means we'll get a first look at Alicia Vikander suited up as the iconic video game character in the very near future (this week?).

We have no idea how she'll look, but chances are it won't be too different to the version in the most recent instalments of the franchise based on what we know about the story. Joining Vikander (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.) are Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight) along with Daniel Wu (Into the Badlands).

Written by Transformers: The Last Knight scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet, the new Tomb Raider movie is currently set to be released on March 16th, 2018. That was a date originally held by The Flash, but with that no longer having a director, it's unknown when exactly it's now going to come out.

And we're off! #tombraider

If Assassin's Creed got such horrible reviews after starring Fassbender, Cotillard, Irons, and Gleeson, and was directed by the director of Macbeth, I have no faith this movie will be good.

I am starting to think that Alicia Vikander is a bad choice. She is REALLY skinny!

@Forthas - Yep! She doesn't look like Lara at all

@Forthas - I don't really see the problem tbh...

@Kyos - My problem is that it is hard to see skinny actresses beating up people or being action stars. If you saw the movie Colombiana with Zoe Sladana where she is a master assassin beating up grown men. She can't sell the role because she is too skinny.

@Forthas - lol what? Thin men & women can fight anyone, no matter the size. It's not just about brute strength....speed and agility win fights my friend. So Zoe was absolutely believable and badass in the role, and i'm sure Alicia will be as well.

@Menks123 - Nice try but...No! If what you said was true...then they would not separate professional fighters by weight class.

I am not saying it is impossible...but it is unlikely and creates HUGE disadvantages. When Gina Carano kicks ass I believe it. When Zoe Saldana does it...No!

@Forthas - Again...i'm not talking about officiated fights. There are advantages with different sizes lmao. Speed, agility can take down people with just strength. It is all about style and training. It's not a one sided argument, just because you're "bigger", doesn't always translate to an easy beat down, no matter the sex of the person.

I just think it is a stupid argument and is a lot more debatable. Just go by that picture above you, Lara is a thin character.....she always has been. Alicia looks identical to that lol, and has always been believable.

@Forthas - Martial arts doesn't require non-skinny people. Or young people. Same for handling weapons.

Plus, movies really aren't trying to be realistic.
Forthas

@Menks123 - OK...you are comparing a "drawn" character to someone who is flesh an blood. I can DRAW an ant and depict it being as strong as a freight train. In a real world setting it would look ridiculous. I think movies should look as believable as possible. The previous Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) was not rail thin and that served the movie well. Yeah Alicia looks like Lara but she is still skinny.

Really! Does she look like an action hero?

@eYeD0ntKn0wSh1t - I took Martial Arts and while it is true that size is not the only factor that determines who will win...it is flat out wrong to say it is not a factor. I know kids that could probably take Alicia down if we just go by looks. Hell she is only 5 feet 5 inches tall! That is NOT someone who can sell an action hero...at least I have my doubts. But who know she might prove me wrong and I will be man enough to admit.

@Forthas - So I guess you won't be seeing LOGAN when it releases. X-23 is a little girl beating the shit outta grown men.

@GammaMan - Those are superheroes! Does Lara Croft have superpowers?
LSHF
LSHF - 1/23/2017, 3:33 PM
@Forthas - Good point. I hope she proves you wrong, just so you will enjoy the film more. My main concern is that you don't let things bother you and you just enjoy the film. Movies are more fun that way.
