Earlier this month, some promo art leaked online showing the title character's redesigned appearance in the upcoming
Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Now, a standee has been spotted which appears to confirm that not only were those pieces of artwork legit, but that Paramount Pictures has indeed gone back to the drawing board and delivered a video game accurate design.
In the movie's first trailer, Sonic was portrayed in a "realistic" fashion and fans were horrified by his human-like eyes, oddly accurate calves, and downright weird teeth.
Director Jeff Fowler was quick to respond, and
Sonic the Hedgehog was delayed as a result. The studio must have spent a lot of money replacing that CGI version of the character with a new one, and who knows what this means for original merchandising plans. Regardless, this take on Sonic should make fans very happy, but will it work in the tone of the movie?
After all, it will now have to explain why Sonic looks so alien as it's hard to imagine a creature like this existing in the real-world (which is likely why he was given that makeover in the first place). It's a tricky one, that's for sure, but we'll find out when the movie is released on February 14th, 2020!
