SONIC THE HEDGEHOG Standee Confirms The Iconic Video Game Character's Complete Redesign

Some promo art recently surfaced showing what appeared to be Sonic's new look in the upcoming movie. Now, a standee has been revealed and it confirms that Paramount has turned to the games for inspiration.

Earlier this month, some promo art leaked online showing the title character's redesigned appearance in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Now, a standee has been spotted which appears to confirm that not only were those pieces of artwork legit, but that Paramount Pictures has indeed gone back to the drawing board and delivered a video game accurate design.

In the movie's first trailer, Sonic was portrayed in a "realistic" fashion and fans were horrified by his human-like eyes, oddly accurate calves, and downright weird teeth.

Director Jeff Fowler was quick to respond, and Sonic the Hedgehog was delayed as a result. The studio must have spent a lot of money replacing that CGI version of the character with a new one, and who knows what this means for original merchandising plans. Regardless, this take on Sonic should make fans very happy, but will it work in the tone of the movie?

After all, it will now have to explain why Sonic looks so alien as it's hard to imagine a creature like this existing in the real-world (which is likely why he was given that makeover in the first place). It's a tricky one, that's for sure, but we'll find out when the movie is released on February 14th, 2020!

A better design can't save a bad movie and 99.9% of video game movies are terrible, so heres hoping this is part of the .1%

@dracula - I actually saw Detective Pikachu recently, and was honestly impressed. That may be the only good video game movie in history, lol. Sonic probably joins the trash can like the rest of em.

@KWilly - The first Mortal Kombat is pretty decent, although more of a guilty pleasure than an acually good movie. Hopefully the new film is good, but seriously how often have people said "This is going to be the one to breakt the bad video game curse" and they fail

Because before not looked so life-like? It's a blue, talking, bipedal hedgehog, mate, that'll need explaining enough as it is!

The redesign is great but if you're going to go as far as you have in being accurate to the games then why not just give him the cyclops eye? We've been fine with it for years now, it's not like people are going to put off by it specifically because it's on a cinema screen.

he looked terrible before, but having Gangta's Paradise in the trailer was just as bad.

I will support this movie just because they were listening to the fans.

@ThunderThighs - That's what I'm thinking. I might see it now just so that the studios will continue to listen to the fans.

However this movie turns out (I'm certainly not expecting much), that first trailer will always be there as a lingering asterisk. They should embrace the hell out of it now in the marketing moving forward.

I haven't given this whole thing much attention. Maybe a side by side comparison would tell the story...
