RUMOR: Only Male Directors Have Been Approached To Helm WONDER WOMAN

Following yesterday's news that Warner Bros. are apparently planning a trilogy of Wonder Woman movies set in different periods, another now claims that contrary to recent reports, the studio haven't actually approached any female directors. Hit the jump for further details!

Bleeding Cool ran a report yesterday in which they quite confidently stated that Wonder Woman's upcoming movie will be set during the First World War, with the plan to place the sequel during World War II and the third in the present day. They've followed up on that today with news on who will helm the 2017 release, and while they don't have any names, they do know it seemingly won't be a woman despite recent claims otherwise. It was The Hollywood Reporter who first mentioned the plan to hire a female director, then a later report from Forbes reeled off a list of potential candidates, but now "[As] it stands, I understand that only male directors have been approached regarding directing the Wonder Woman movie." Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily, as hiring a woman to direct a movie starring a female superhero seemed a little patronising; is it not just better to find the right person for the job regardless of gender? What do you guys think?

It doesn't matter who WB gets to direct Wonder Woman, but I rather believe Hollywood Reporter than Bleeding Cool.

See this is why I don't believe rumours about a movie 3 years away. Cause nobody know shit. Ill wait for an official announcement about story, director, etc...

Just get the best director for the job. Gender shouldn't matter.

FYI, Rich Johnson isn't a reliable source. He gets his "scoops" by hanging out at hotel bars and talking to drunk people loosely connected with whatever he's covering. I'd trust a real Hollywood trade like THR over a tabloid like Bleeding Cool.

Who they pick ultimately should be based foremost in talent, but I'll admit it's a bit disconcerting to see they haven't extended the offer to a woman yet. Getting a female writer on board should be a higher priority, though.

@Nick56 Exactly.. tired of all of this news for movies 3-5 years from now because it's so pointless.

Nothing is set in stone.

Suffers from poor phrasing unfortunately. I suspect WB/DC are looking at good directors, and the ones the source has heard of happen to be male. Not that they're purposefully excluding female options.

Personally I hope they pick the best director, regardless of their sex.
MICHAEL BAY IT IS.

Guys...I want to apologize. I'm on my phone. So I won't be able to post a video clip of Tom Cruise saying "Respect the cock! Tame the cùnt!"

...I feel like I've let you all down...

Yeah, it shouldn't matter who it is just because of their gender. It should just go to someone who is going to handle the character respectfully.

Anyone who cares about the sex of the director is pretty much a sexist.
That being said, WB better get the best one for the job and produce a quality product I got a little girl who can't wait to see her favorite super hero on the big screen.

Lol all this proves is nobody knows shit about the WW movie outside of release date and actress.

If HR reported the female director thing, I trust that over Bleeding Cool, though.

Because all we have is rumors!!! No one has a ficking clue except WB/DC execs. Most of these rumors are BS anyway.

If your brother is involved, I'd imagine JohnGazelle will sit through half the film.

So what is it a Great War film or a movie that is in the twenties. I personally hope it is in the 1914s over the 1920s. Also this opens up more doors. Which to me is great news. Why limit yourself to just female directors, when guys could do a great job too.

I think everyone here can agree... MICHAEL BAY is the best director for Wonder Woman. He always does such a great job with his female protagonists!
