WONDER WOMAN 1984 Director Patty Jenkins Says WONDER WOMAN 3 Is "Probably My Last"

Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins has hinted that the next instalment of the franchise is likely to be her last, while indicating that she'll be putting a lot into that final chapter of the trilogy.

Wonder Woman 1984 is currently set to be released in theaters this October, but the entire plot of the sequel has already leaked online, and received something of a mixed response from those who have read it. Of course, a synopsis written from memory will never do an actual movie justice, so it will be interesting seeing what director Patty Jenkins delivers here.

During an interview with German magazine Geek (via @DCMovieNews2), the filmmaker indicated that if she gets the opportunity to direct a Wonder Woman 3, it will likely be the last time she steps behind the camera to direct the Amazon Warrior's big screen adventures.

"[Wonder Woman 1984] gave me a chance to do a lot of things that I couldn't accommodate in the first movie. I was so happy to tell the Wonder Woman origin story," Jenkins explains. "It was almost her birth, but we really haven't seen what she is capable of. It is exciting for me to show her at the peak of her strength."

"But it is also very important that she fights an internal struggle: she is a Goddess and tries to help humanity. She is not only someone who fights evil, she tries to show bad people how to improve. It's an interesting dilemma."

"The next one [Wonder Woman 3] is probably my last Wonder Woman movie," Jenkins added in regards to her future with the franchise, "so I have to put everything I want to show there. We have to think carefully." It certainly sounds like the director has big plans for Diana Prince moving forward, and you have to believe that third movie would take place in the present day.

What would you guys like to see from a Wonder Woman 3?

Yeah not expecting Gal to stick around either after the confusing slate , just hope to see her interact with another hero before she goes away

Lets see how this one does first before talking about a possible third film.

@tmp3

Eh, if it weren’t for corona I’d say a third Wonder Woman would be all but guaranteed.

The first one was a monster hit. 821 million. Sandwiched in between Suicide Squad and Justice League haha.

@tmp3 - good point, stupid corona. Before this I was like “ooh Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman vs black widow and Eternals! Will the MCU or DCEU win the 2020 battle for the box office?”
NO. Or DCEU by default. But I can’t count that, Coronavirus you DC shill! You fixed it! That’s not fair!

Speculation here of course: I think marvel would’ve won, just because of Harley’s box office. Yes Wonder Woman was gonna smash, and I don’t think marvel would’ve topped it individually, but both movies versus dc’s would’ve won. Speculation, we’ll never know, BUT if all three of those get moved to next year and everything else gets bumped back, then I’ll combine 2020 and 2021

@regularmovieguy - SS was in the 700’s, without china. No I don’t like the movie but it was not a laughable box office. It... engendered, a laughable box office, by way of birds of prey. But tho SS was a critical failure, it did great that what, August, September? Made bank. 800’s is obviously better. With China tho, SS might’ve reached that. No tellin

@regularmovieguy - We'll see. I can't see it making as much as the last one because the wait between the two films was already so long, and I don't even know if this one will get good reviews. This is before accounting for how radically different the movie market will look like post-COVID.
Honestly wish DC was more ambitious with their movies, outside of The Batman and maybe New Gods there's not that much they've got coming up that sounds interesting to me.

Tf are you talking about? I was talking WW.

@tmp3

Eh, I doubt Patty and Gal on the first Wonder Woman. It wasn’t [frick]ing amazing or anything but it’s prolly the best female-led cbm imo.

I haven’t read the spoilers for this movie so maybe I don’t know shit, but I also don’t expect a WW sequel to change comic book movies.

Feel like the genres always been like this too. You get one or two interesting movies/franchises and the rest are fairly by the numbers.

@regularmovieguy - Yeah. Not really excited for any upcoming CBMs outside of The Batman and Strange 2, ngl. Interested in Shazam! 2 and The Eternals, but wouldn't say I'm hyped yet.

@tmp3 - Pre-corona I was sure this was going to be the highest grossing film of the year, at least in North America.

Ahhh

Like Nearly all pop-culture intellectual properties and characters it’s only your “last one”, as long as your other options don’t dry up.

@IronGenesis

Patty Jenks will have plenty of offers when she’s done with WW.

Doesn’t seem like the sort of filmmaker who wants to be kept in one box.

I know everyone is high on the 80s, and that was Perez's era (which they could've done more to her hair, but whatever). But I wish they set it in the 70s during the "New Wonder Woman" era by Denny O'Neil.

@tmp3 - And she cried about boyfriends every issue. The 70s weren't kind to Diana.

@tmp3 - Hahaha yes. I mainly meant as more of an espionage, Man from UNCLE feel. To make it different from the first movie aside from decade changes. Obviously don't adapt everything from the era lol oy

Love Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, that was a solid casting decision. Looking forward to the next film and third when the time comes. Patty Jenkins seems like a great director and I'd love to see her do a Marvel film, maybe Captain Marvel 2. Also, I really want Gal Gadot to get her own action franchise similar to John Wick or The Equalizer. There are a few female characters that have only received one good action film that left the door open for more films and it has yet to happen.
