Warner Bros. "Had To Shovel Tens Of Millions At Gal Gadot" And More To Ensure WONDER WOMAN 3 Happens

Whatever happens, Wonder Woman 1984 will make a loss thanks to its HBO Max debut, but Warner Bros. had no choice but to make some hefty paydays in order to secure plans for a third film in the series!

It became clear yesterday evening that there are a lot of people unhappy with WarnerMedia's decision to release its 2021 slate simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max.

Wonder Woman 1984 is the first Warner Bros. film to head to the streaming platform, and the studio is said to be paying director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot a reported $10 million to make up for what they'll lose from their back-end deals on what the movie would have made at the box office.

You've known this since last night, of course, but now we know why!

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that, "WarnerMedia had to shovel tens of millions at Gal Godot and the other key players because the company wants a third in the series. But that sets the bar high."

Despite Wonder Woman 1984 being guaranteed to make a loss when it's released later this month, the studio obviously hopes the franchise will bounce back with a big box office haul for an eventual Wonder Woman 3

Not everyone will receive what's being called "Wonder Woman money," however.

The trade adds that, "Sources say even Suicide Squad director James Gunn, who is platform-agnostic, was not pleased when the studio followed its shocking announcement by floating a lackluster formula for compensating him and other profit participants in the film."

This is gonna get messy, folks.

So Disney fricked James Gunn, and now WB. I hope they wined & dined him first.

Someone should make a tv show about WB, because I find a lot of their decisions pretty entertaining

@bkmeijer - it could be their leading HBO Max show, Lord knows they need it

@bkmeijer - it is kind of hilarious. They don't have a global scheme for role out. They didn't even give cinema's a 3 week window. They didn't wait to see how the vaccine plays out. Its almost like they know something we don't

@aresww3 - they saw it's so they still give the fans day one experience, but it doesn't really make sense otherwise. Am I being dense, or are they?

@bkmeijer - It honestly wouldn't surprise me if it turns out that they have someone making bad decisions on purpose to run the company into the ground, for some outside interests.

@GwenLantern - if it wasn't for Corona Disney would be there to buy them.

So you drop your 2021 slate onto HBO Max to see if this drives your subscriptions and if it does, make WW3 later to get more profits... from the box office? You can't bury theaters then expect to use them down the road.

But stranger things have happened.

@Vanillain - the studio doesn’t directly say that tbf, the author of the article suggests that...
