NEW MUTANTS Star Says Reshoots Are Making The Movie The One "We All Signed Up To Do"

It's no secret that New Mutants has had something of a troubled production and now star Anya Taylor-Joy sheds some light on just how much of a difference those reshoots are making to the Marvel movie...

New Mutants was supposed to be released earlier this year but the Josh Boone helmed release has been delayed a number of times now and that's reportedly due to extensive reshoots which will change the tone of the movie and add some new characters. We've heard conflicting reports about what went wrong but things aren't looking good for this one and it could be another Fantastic Four.

During a recent interview, Glass star Anya Taylor-Joy said that returning to play Magik again has been "just great" and she's confident that the movie will ultimately deliver the goods. The actress was also asked about how reshoots have changed New Mutants' tone and while she was vague with her response, it sounds like something wasn't right about the movie before Fox ordered these changes.

"I think we’re making the movie that we set out to make, in the beginning," she explains. "That’s what we’re going to end up delivering to people. It feels like the movie we all signed up to do, which is good." Whether or not New Mutants will deliver on that promise remains to be seen, especially as there's a lot of speculation it won't even end up in theaters. What do you guys think of these remarks?

This movie might enter into forgettable status if the promotional campaign doesn't kick into hard gear soon. I've barely heard any talk about it.

@BlindWedjat - It’s not getting released until August of next year, so it’s mostly a year out. Add that it was supposed to be made on a low budget for a superhero flick and I wouldn’t expect any new marketing for it for a long time to come.

@Chewtoy - Next August?! Lol, is this straight to DVD? The Fox-Men franchise has already deteriorated and with the IPs being with Disney, this release will just be awkward.

@BlindWedjat - It got delayed. Thus why there are no marketing.

@BlindWedjat - I'm sure once they have a product they're all comfortable with we'll start seeing more footage, same with Dark Phoenix. It's kinda good that they're going back to make sure they deliver a quality film, instead of more fanboy fodder. Once they have the movie they were looking for I'm sure we'll get more promotion then.

Man, Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana gotta be the best casting in a CBM ever!

No love for Man-Thing?

@NinnesMBC - first ever horror comic book movie? You forgot about the Blade trilogy, Creepshow, Constantine, etc....

@NinnesMBC - I suspect that you mean “first ever horror superhero movie”, as we’ve had stuff like “30 Days Of Night” and films based on E.C. comics. Even so (and leaving aside “Man-Thing”), that’s a hard thing to define, as everything from “The Crow” to “Spawn” to “Blade” have had horror elements and stylings to them.

@NinnesMBC - (to borrow from others)
Man-Thing,
Blade trilogy, (3)
Creepshow, (2)
Constantine,
30 Days Of Night, (2)
The Crow, (bunch)
Spawn,
(plus)
Swamp Thing, (2)
Tales from the Crypt movies, (2)
Ghost Rider movies, (2)
Aliens Vs. Predators, (2)
Hellboy, (2)
That's over 20, and probably more I missed. And that's without counting TV and animated movies. First ever? Not even close. And I'm not sure how "horror" this movie is really going to turn out. We'll just have to see.

By the time this drops, Marvel Studios will probably have X-Men news out to us. Even if it's something trivial like "Kevin Feige has stated in an interview the rights are completely in their hands and they've already started meeting on how to weave them into the MCU."

So when this hits the light of day us MCU fans are just gonna be like, "Fox-Men?"

(Although I've been like this for years already)

@Tonic24k - Exactly. Unless this movie is amazing, it will be dismissed. Fox is sending this thing to die.

Considering how much money The Nun just made and how much It made last year I still really think DC is dropping the ball with the JLD movie. An actual horror movie existing within the larger DCFU could really put some butts in seats. Trying to make The New Mutants into a horror movie is fine and all but it’s in a dead universe. While Constantine and Etrigan and Deadman actually deal with demons and ghosts and spirits and the supernatural on an everyday basis. It could really be creep and bring the scares if they want to and WB is the studio that has pulled it off.

Can't wait for all the Fox stink to be washed away from the X-properties and be properly presented into the MCU. There've been a few bright spots but it's seemed more of a case where beggars can't be choosy.

TRexx21

@Spock0Clock - Justice League suffered from having 2 different director's visions into one film, I don't think they changed the director on this one so it won't have the same issue.

Horror or Superhero?
