SuperHeroHype has learned that Simon Kinberg will be writing the script for the as yet untitled X-Men: First Class sequel.

You may not know him by name - but this guy has a history with the X-Men movies..

SuperHeroHype has learned that Simon Kinberg is writing the sequel to 20th Century Fox's X-Men: First Class, which has earned over $350 million since opening in theaters this June.

Kinberg produced the first film and was a writer on X-Men: The Last Stand. His other writing credits include Mr. & Mrs Smith, Jumper, Sherlock Holmes and the upcoming This Means War and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. He is a producer on the latter two as well and is a producer on Neill Blomkamp's next, Elysium.

So - as the co-writer of the slammed X-Men: The Last Stand, but the well received (certainly by most) Sherlock Holmes - what can we expect from Simon Kinberg? Be sure to share your thoughts below!

X-Men: First Class is a 2011 American superhero action drama film by Matthew Vaughn and produced by Bryan Singer, based on the characters appearing in Marvel Comics. The fifth installment in the X-Men series was released on June 1, 2011, in the UK and on June 3 in the U.S., achieving positive reviews and box-office success.

The film acts as a prequel for the X-Men trilogy, set primarily in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It focuses on the relationship between Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr and the origin of their groups, the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants. The film stars James McAvoy as Xavier and Michael Fassbender as Magneto. Other cast members include Kevin Bacon, January Jones, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Zoë Kravitz, Nicholas Hoult and Lucas Till.

Oh and was a co-writer on X3. Not the only one. Penn pretty much ruined that one.

As long as Vaughn rewrites the script, we'll be fine.

With Vaughn = we don't need to worry. Without Vaughn = panic attack.

Why couldn't they use Jane Goldman again? She's Matthew Vaughns script writing buddy! Stardust, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class.... Need I say anymore?

Ehh...I will keep faith, for now.
I try not to judge this early in development. I just want to see a young Jean, Scott...and possibly Psylocke OR Dazzler.

I'm not TOO annoyed that he worked on X3. I mean: he DID work with Penn on a Ratner directed film. Kinberg's work in Holmes is enough to sell it to me.

I really hope ''Xavier'' doesn't stay as jerk that invades and manipulates innocent people's minds for no reason this time around. It's the complete opposite of how he is in the comics. What a joke that first movie was. Why even call him ''Xavier''?

Uh-oh...X-men 3. I sure hope Sherlock Holmes is in this then. Justin Beiber as Dazzler FTW!!

We need Aly Michalka for the role of course!

So lets see
X-Men: Last Stand: Shit
Sherlock Holmes: Very Good
Mr. and Mrs. Smith: Good
Jumper: Mostly Shit
This Means War: Looks ok
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter: Interesting

They should've stayed with the original writers but it might be good

I'm not gonna flip out until they sign a director but he does not have a good track record. And yes I am including Sherlock Holmes!

Hmmm...too early to judge just yet, this is just the very first step - getting something down on paper to show they are beginning the process.

I think it will take ages to get going on a First Class sequel because Wolverine starts shooting next year and all focus will be on that.

This news just sounds like they are getting the ball rolling. After all, it was publicly stated that Kinberg did some rewrites on First Class, so he had some involvement already in the script process.

As for The Last Stand, well we can only hope they learned from that...

^^They did a lot right in X3 - As well as Beast and that Xavier/Phoenix battle, Angel looked great, Storm finally flew (and had a hairdo that didn't look like a white wig for once), some of the other Phoenix stuff was excellent (like the talons of water rising round the island, similar to that comic art of the firebird talons round a planet). But the film threw too much in, and didn't tie together the cure/Phoenix plots enough. And Rogue should never have been cured, but First Class hinted that a cure could end up enhancing mutation.

We can only pray that Singer/Vaughn/Goldman end up involved in the FC sequel.

This guy is the plot man. The first draft writer. Do you know what happens the instant a Director (especially one like Vaughn) is brought on to a movie? THEY THROW THE FIRST DRAFT AWAY.
At most it's just getting a sequence of events on paper for team to discuss.
Be still fanboys, it's all going to be okay.

Wow, I'm really not too jazzed with the choice of writer. All I can say is: I hope Vaughn or Goldman re-writes the script.

The Last Stand was the worst X-Men movie, and the news that this guy is writing the second installment of First Class is a HUGE mistake.

^^^^ agreed

if not sentinels, then at least give us Mr. Sinister. Throw Cyclops + Jean + Sinister = easy and perfect story line

It's no good just having fanboy tantrums for Sinister or whatever to be thrown in so you get a hard-on. The story comes first. Throwing in things for the sake of it resulted in X3 and XMO:W

None of you would have screamed for Cold War or Cuban Missile stuff yet that backdrop/storyline is what made FC work really well.

Raise your hand if you're judging this man's work by the quality of the film (which has several outside forces at work in it, such as actors, directors, and producers).

Now raise your hand if you're judging his work by the quality of his literature (which I'm sure NONE of you have read on his/her own).
