Looks Like James Mangold's WOLVERINE 3 Has Been Confirmed For That R Rating

Following the leaked image that suggested the new Wolverine flick was aiming for an R rating, THR has published a follow-up report, seemingly confirming that a more adult take was always the plan...

After the rumor that Fox and director James Mangold were planing an R-rated follow up to The Wolverine kicked off with this pamphlet from the New York Toy Fair, THR would seem to have confirmed that Hugh Jackman's final turn in the claws and mutton chops will indeed be a more adult orientated adventure.

However, according to the trade this was always the plan and has nothing to do with the success of the similarly R-rated Deadpool.

"Insiders say the untitled Wolverine threequel, which James Mangold begins shooting in a month, was always designed as a movie that would receive an R from the ratings board once finished because of the level of violence (and likely language) in the script written by Michael Green."

There's no mention of the plot (which is still strongly rumored to be based on Mark Millar's Old Man Logan arc), but as we draw closer to the film's shoot date we might soon become privy to some more details.

How do you feel about the prospect of an R-rated Wolverine movie?

Fox you were barely involved with Deadpool. It wasn't the R -- it was the lack of micromanaging.

Hire a good script writer, a good director and make an actual good ****ing movie. I don't care if it's R or pg13. I'm not going to a theater purely because it's an R.

@exies7 - Of course they were involved! The only reason they micro-managed Fantastic 4 was because it was going to shit.

Why do you guys hate that Fox made this movie so bad? Just get over it.

An R-rated Wolverine movie makes sense. Still needs to be good, though.

Remember, The Wolverine was shot as a rated R movie. That movie came out 3 years before Deadpool. So this isn't exactly something they've never done before

@ALegendaryPanda - No Panda, it's because of Deadpool, it's the only successful R-Rated CBM ever and everything will be influenced by that! Even the stuff before it was influenced by the Deadpool movie! DEADPOOL IS EVERYTHING!

*head explodes*

bring some more X-Men on here, some classic villains, and do a dark script without a huge "set piece" like most generic movies, and we'll be fine.
