Froma comic book stand point, the film was a fiasco. My biggest problem was the fact that they took a few characters and added them to a story they should be no where near...GAMBIT! Fox has a tendency to "take liberties" with characters and story lines and they usually take them to a point where the character isn't recognizable. Gambit for instance had no involvement with Wolverine until well after he joined the X-Men and they were not friends; they basically tolerate each other.
The film seemed like they took the rejects from the X-Men Trilogy and threw them into the storyline. It was almost like a roll call and Wolverine was their test dummy. They went character by character and "showed off" what they could do in a fight. In short, it came down to the fact that they didn't quite know how to include the fight scenes properly.
Casting was great. As I stated earlier, Schrieber was excellent and brought new life to Sabretoothe, who in the first X-Film, was a big, mute oaf. This was more like it. Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool was a perfect fit and I suspect we'll see more of that character. Will.I.Am did a decent job, he won't be winning an Oscar anytime soon, but good. As for Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, it was OK. I wish he (and many other characters) had much more screen time. He needed to be a bit older, my pick is still Josh Holloway from Lost. Not to mention, they don't call him the Ragin' Cajun for no reason! Where was the accent?!?
This was a fast paced movie and I felt that the characters needed more time; it all happened very fast, but you are still able to stay on top of what was going on. It was a good show and started off well, but just went downhill with cheesy dialogue and scenes that were a bit too over the top, even for a comic book movie. Did I hate it? No. I still thin X2: X-Men United is the best in the series, but it's a decent show. I'd check it out, it's entertaining and has some cool scenes, awesome sound, and Hugh Jackman's butt
