The conclusion of X-Men: Apocalypse saw the team uniting for a training exercise in the Danger Room, sporting some outfits that were a lot more comic accurate than any we'd seen in the franchise previously. As it turns out, we could have seen some even more comic-accurate costumes, as revealed in new concept art posted by Joshua James Shaw.

The designs feature diffferent looks for Cyclops and Mystique. The first Scott Summers pic shows an outfit that's incredibly reminiscent of the character's 90's look, while the second is a lot more streamlined with blue highlights. Mystique is shown in a white and grey bodysuit that pays homage to her classic dress. Jennifer Lawrence's face is superimposed on to the concept, while Cyclops bears no resemblance to actor Tye Sheridan, which probably indicates these images were done before casting was complete.

Do you like these looks better than what we got in the film? Sound off below!

They should have gone with yellow

Eek. Setting aside the designs, why does Fox have the worst concept artists? Those Cyclopses look like something out of Second Life.

Compare that to a freakin' TV show...

@Spock0Clock - While you may not like the designs, Shaw has also done work on Deadpool and Agents Of SHIELD (Hive). He's quite talented...besides...not all concept art is meant to make it past the drawing board...

@MattBellissimo - (Touched a nerve, maybe.)

Hey, I'm being an armchair designer here, and while I ordinarily think people without talent shouldn't criticize people with it, I'm still going to be a bit of an asshole about this one.

I don't like looking at it. But that's a separate question to how useful it could be in the production process (which it very well could be in ways that I truly don't understand). I am a 2D artist at heart, so I'll concede the direct design to 3d model is very much outside my wheelhouse so I'll keep my mouth shut...

@Spock0Clock - No nerves touched at all dude. I've been up since 430am (7am here right now) so I'm sorry if I was brisk. Lol.

And obviously so much of aesthetic quality comes from time spent. If someone can bang out a dozen designs on a 3D model in quick succession to give people a ballpark idea of what they're doing, then that's fine.

Look, I don't like people being assholes about art, and I'm being that guy. It just struck me wrong seeing it and I'm very anti-Apocalypse and anti-Fox having seen it. This was all gut stuff. Here's what I should have said:

Thanks, @MattBellissimo for posting these for me to be a dick about them. And thanks to the artist for making them in the first place and making them available (or however they got here). There. I still feel like a piece of shit, but somewhat less of one.

@MattBellissimo - Not at all. I'm on the frayed edge as well.

LOL.

It's OK man. Honestly Apocalypse bothered me too. Probably just as much as BVS did.

I see what you mean with the Second Life comparison though. The background certainly doesn't help either.

@Spock0Clock - I seem to recall everyone hating the Daredevil suit when it first came out, I never really understood why at the time though

On point, good job, @MattBellissimo.

That middle design is probably the best, but a lot of it has to do with materials and construction. None of those last suits really worked for me. They were all plasticky, haphazard, and impractical. They were only used for one scene though, and that always means they'll be rushed.

@Spock0Clock - Agreed. I was not a fan of almost all of the costumes in this movie. I actually like the 1st Cyclops if it had the second's visor. Almost straight from the comics, cartoons and games of my youth. Although, if I would have seen that at the end of this movie, it would have pissed me off that he didn't look like that throughout the entire movie. Maybe we'll get that in the next one if Singer isn't directing. A boy can dream, right?

Well, Jennifer looks pretty as a redhead. But I'm OK with the final costumes, just make sure they look less like armors and they're more sleeker in the next movie.

Those costumes at the end of the movie were the goofiest piece of shits I've ever seen. Those weren't the costumes from the comics either, they were "Fox-Men" costumes. They all looked like cosplay clowns.

Why couldn't they go with one of those Cyclops choices? What on earth makes them think they picked the right one? It looked awful.

How to do costumes right:

Even if Colussues didn't have the traditional suit, it still fit him very well and looked bad-ass, like motorcycle gear.

@DevarikaWoulf - At least Colossus still closely resembles his comic counterpart.

Regardless of my feelings about Apocalypse, here's to getting some color into the series. I watched this video the other day that got so much of the X-Men in terms of their costuming.

That Cyclops/Wolverine thing actually blew my mind.
