One of the more confusing elements of X-Men: Days Of Future Past was its final scene. After Wolverine's past self is left at the bottom of a river, he is rescued by William Stryker. As it turns out, it's not Stryker at all, but Mystique in disguise. This left a lot of fans puzzled as to what the scene's significance would be to future stories. Would this mean Wolverine would be rescued from his fate with Weapon X? Even more confusion ensued when Wolverine appeared at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse's most recent trailer, seemingly in the clutches of Weapon X anyway (this was later confirmed by director Bryan Singer). In a new interview with CinemaBlend, producer and writer Simon Kinberg (who also wrote Apocalypse) explained the significance of the scene from Days Of Future Past and how it affects the upcoming Apocalypse. "One of the things we talk about in Days of Future Past - there’s a scene where Hank/Beast talks about the immutability of time. Basically, you can change the way the future goes, but it finds its way back. So while we don’t show how, it found its way back to Wolverine being part of Weapon X and under the thumb of Stryker, that’s the idea."
This is quite a confusing answer. While it certainly explains why Wolverine ends up with his adamantium skeleton again, it doesn't provide any explanation as to why Mystique was on that boat impersonating Stryker. And if time manages to "find its way back", wouldn't that mean that the time travel mission from Days Of Future Past was pointless? From the sounds of it, we may have to wait until X-Men: Apocalypse releases next week to find out more details.
