X-MEN: Our Best Look Yet At 'Apocalypse'; Oscar Isaac Teases The Movie's Final Battle

EW has posted a new (well, a close-up version of the previous group shot) image of Oscar Isaac as the titular villain of X-Men: Apocalypse, and it gives us a much better idea of how he'll appear in the film. Isaac also reveals why they went with the look they did...

So yeah, fans are not too impressed with what they've seen from Bryan Singer's big-screen Apocalypse so far - but to be fair, we haven't see that much. The image above seems to be a cropped version of the previous pic of the villain with Storm and Psylocke, but it still offers a much more detailed look at the design of the character. As for why Singer and co. went with that particular visage, actor Oscar Isaac explains.

“We had to do some adjustments here and there and be like, alright, maybe this is too alien,” the actor tells EW. “He also is someone who people would want to follow and not just be terrified of. So the balance, and then making sure that there’s some great elements from the comic but also making our own thing as well. In the comic, he generally is like 12 feet, 600 pounds.” Some fans would have been perfectly happy with that! But does this close-up of Apocalypse come across any better at all?

Isaac had one more intriguing tease about the final battle of the film, in which En Sabah Nur will apparently take on a LOT of other mutants. “I mean that last battle is going to be pretty insane. I mean, it’s like freaking Apocalypse fighting all of the X-Men. It’s pretty cool.”

The X-Men movies don't have final battles

It'll just be some talking and like a minute of mild running around

LMB10, well you're partially right.. in that they don't just fill the screen with a bunch of convoluted explosions and action set pieces, and actually have some stakes for their characters.

In the "final battle" the X-men "get sticky" with Ivan Ooze's twin brother!

It's really not hard to make someone look bigger. He doesn't have to be a full CGI character to look big. For example:

And Apocalypse doesn't even have to look that big.

It really does look like crap. And I'm not saying that because I'm not a fan of Fox Marvel. But the last battle sounds pretty damn cool tbh.

Buuuuuuuut Oscar Isaac is such a brilliant actor his performance may make up for the look

It's ironic that the make up actually makes him look older and less formidable than he should. I think Oscar Isaac without make up could be more intimidating than this. This is so embarrassing for FOX. If they fix it now, we can eventually move past this and we'll joke about it one day, but if this carries through til the end, I won't be seeing this.

Seriously though, how do you [frick] up THAT bad. There are NO features that resemble Apocalypse. Absolutely none.

Man, someone post that brilliant edited picture they did for Apocalypse. That picture was freaking beautiful. The chest, coloring and lip lining were all fantastic. I see exactly what they're going for here but there's things even I as a Fox fan KNOOOOOOW they'll need to change. It's the overall performance that will have me satisfied at the end of the day but I'm just sitting here thinking to myself:"Why hold back?" this could be your last X-Men film, and you shouldn't give a flying crap about hindering yourself from embracing comic book elements that you may feel as if won't be translated on screen well. Everything else I've seen so far looks great! It's just Apocalypse and Archangel I want to be changed. There's no way Ben Hardy should be walking around with flamboyant hairdo while rocking the terrifying Archangel gear. I'll remain to wait, but I'm not sitting around on the issue, I'm going to the guy's twitter, instagram etc.

@NELLOGISTICS, false. My first impression was that he looked like Ivan Ooze way before I saw this sites reaction. Not to mention, the whole Ivan Ooze comparison isn't limited to this site. It was become as discussed as the movie itself

The only thing that really has me worried is that Vaughn isn't attached to this, this is the first X-Men movie since First Class that Vaughn isn't involved in....

And, yeah, this looks bad, weird bad, it just does

This is literally the same thing that happened within AoU in regards to Ultron, whether people want to acknowledge it or not the entire talks of "humanizing" these antagonist is something that truly taints their true potential from standing out and if they don't play this one smart it could disappoint many fans. I don't say these things to sound arrogant or harsh but it's the honest truth.

What's even more hilarious is that we'll end up getting concept art and everyone will go: "WHY DIDN'T THEY DO THAT!?"

btw i solved X-Men continuity problem.

X-Men Universe is a MULTIVERSE. Don't have to thank me Bryan ...

X1,X2,X3 take place in Universe no 1.
XM:FC should also take place in Universe 1 since it's a X1 prequel but it's the Beast who builds Cerebro, not Charles and Eric like it was mentioned in X1.
Which lead me to think XM:FC is taking place in Universe 2 or is in fact taking place in Universe 1 but there Beast bulding Cerebro is in fact a plothole.

If XM:FC Beast creating Cerebro is a plot hole then the second universe starts when after DOFP mission was successful and the future from Universe 1 no longer exist.
Universe 2 should start at the point when Mystique makes herself look like Stryker and saves Logan from the experiments (not for long, i guess - someone would have to give him claws - either real Stryker or Apocalypse)

note: Future with old Charles and Eric in DOFP take place in Universe 1.
Jean and Scott are dead and Charles is still alive. Charles is alive in U1 because he switched bodies in X3 and somehow managed to get his original me back.

When Logan is waking up in the Mansion after DOFP mission he's in Universe 2. Jean is still alive, Cyclops too so The Wolverine movie never happened. Still the story from The Wolverine still exists in Universe 1.

Wolverine Origins is a tricky thing. As i recall Fox stated that the movie didn't happen but for me it could still happened since it's Universe 5. This universe could be shown in Universe 4 (Dedpool) once Wade is walking out of cinema and complains about the movie he just saw - Wolverine Origins. The Deadpool Universe would also explain why is Colossus looking different this time around.

Third Universe is FF universe.

All stories still exists (except Wolverine Origins. It's a fictional story written for a movie from Deadpool Universe), nothing vanished.
Problem solved.

also: Gambit takes place either in Universe 2 or 4(Deadpool).

IT'S A [frick]ING MULTIVERSE

X1,X2,X3,XM:FC
AND DOFP (but only future segment with old Charles and Eric) - UNIVERSE 1

DOFP, XM:APE - UNIVERSE 2
FF - UNIVERSE 3
DEADPOOL - UNIVERSE 4
THE WOLVERINE - UNIVERSE 1
THE WOLVERINE 2 - probably UNIVERSE 2
WOLVERINE:ORIGINS - UNIVERSE 5
GAMBIT - UNIVERSE 2 OR 4
XM:APE - UNIVERSE 2.

also

The Wolverine post credit scene makes sense if in Universe 1 X4 adventure exist and Charles got his body back.

AND YES - LOGAN WENT FROM FUTURE OF UNIVERSE 1 TO WAKE UP IN HIS YOUNGER BODY IN UNIVERSE 2. CHARLES HE SAW WAS DIFFERENT CHARLES.
LOGAN IS FIRST MULTIVERSE TRAVELER ;)
