More Magneto Movie Talk, "It's Erik and Charles, the early years"

Marvel movie producer Lauren Shuler-Donner gave an interview to the UK's Empire magazine where she leaked a bit more info on plans for X-Men Origins: Magneto...

Details of the plot have remained vague thus far, but Shuler Donner was happy to tell us shed a little light on things. “We have a script on Magneto which is actually sort of Magneto and Charles Xavier,” she said. “It’s Erik and Charles in their early, early years.”

And, as if to further confirm that, the industry bible Production Weekly has added a synopsis for the Fox film, which suggests that Xavier “was a soldier in the allied force that liberated the concentration camps” in which Magneto is interred at the beginning of Bryan Singer’s X-Men.

“The professor meets Magneto after the war and while they bond over the realisation that they are alike in their special powers, their differences soon turn them into enemies.”

LAME!!!
He has been in three films and now they are giving him his own movie? Of all the great villians in X-men and they can't move on? Come on people. What makes a great comic book film is the duality between hero and villian, not how "dark" you can make it. Magneto's been done. MOVE ON!!! can you say apocalypse...

Well they're obviously not making this movie for the comicbook fans, they're making it for the x-men movie franchise fans. Us hardcore comic fans want more of the x universe then just freakin magneto. Who cares about his origin, it's irrelevant. I agree, an age of apocaplypse movie would be cool. Cable and Bishop and Apocalypse oh my!

I don't quite agree with you. I mean, I would love to see an Age of Apocalypse movie, and see some different characters, but i don't think this film is just for the Movie fans. I'm really not sure who it's for. I love the X-men and Magneto is one of my absolute favourite characters. As a fan i would love to see Magda, and Anya and all that in this film, but i doubt it'll happen. Instead we're getting Magneto after the Concentration Camp, which i as a fan of the character will see. But who else will? Do the Movie fans care enough about the bad-guy to watch and hour and a half of him in the world war 2 era? Wasn't that Hannibal Rising? how well did that do? I mean, when i tell my friends they're making this they say things like, "didn't they tell us his origin in the first movie" I guess it makes sense that Donner is now calling it an "Erik and Charles" movie.

Anyway, I could be wrong.

Truthfully I know I'll see it at least twice ;)

Lol, me too. I'll be at the midnight showing. :)

As far as movie fans caring about the movie, I can only speak from my own experience. I wasn't an X-Men fan until I saw the X-men movies. I was a big DC comics buff, and I had seen Spider-man of course, but X1 and 2 got me interested in the entire marvel universe. So I can't speak for the other movie fans, but I am very interested in seeing a Magneto and Prof X story. As a comic canon fan, and a movie canon fan, i'm so glad to see another movie with the same actors that introduced me to the marvel universe.

Well, that's my 2 cents. ;D

Yeh... I don't think so, plus that would put Xavier in his mid 80's (He aint in his 80's) by the 3rd x-men, not that I count the 3rd x-men as an actual movie.

But the problem with this movie is obviously continuity! I mean even if the 3rd movie wasn't as good as the other 2, it was part of one big story arc done by the same actors. We can't act like it never happened and just reboot from the 2nd one. Which means we can't put aside the already established backgrounds of both Eric and Charles especially since they'll probably both be doing cameos in this movie.

- 1st, those guys were friends and worked together till they're forties. Remember Jean Grey's origin in the 3rd?

- 2nd, it is also proven that they were friends past the war era since magneto himself admitted helping Charles build cerebro in the 2nd movie...ring any bells?

I mean this whole movie seems to start off on the wrong foot. The reason behind all this is that Goyer is writing it as well as directing it. He's gonna single handedly mess up the whole thing just like he did with Blade 3! Don't get me wrong, he's an amazing writer but he gets trigger happy when they give him the director reigns. Let's just hope that i'm wrong or at least that Wolverine will be so good that we'll forget that Goyer's flop will massacre the franchise yet again. I mean this sounds too much like we're asking Joel Schumacher to make the next Superman movie!!! Sure, here's another one for ya to screw up! This origins movie sounds like no director wanted it and finally Goyer said "alrighty then, i'll take it!" Thanks a lot FOX!

I think its really a great idea, picture this, second world war, a time without computers, hi-tech and everything relating to modern age. And among that, two guys with special powers and the rest of the world that is affraid of them. I cant wait for this movie.

i think it could be good..but the continuity thing is true, theyl have to think of sumtin to get past that. i also love magneto but i agree this should be the last time we see his skinny ass! apocalype would be amazing but i cant see him ever being in a movie because his charater seems a bit too sci fi for the studios i reckon

Alas, you reckon right Rorschach01. We'll never get to see that or if we do, it's gonna be in such an inderect way(similar to the animated series a few years back) kinda like we got to see the Sentinel in the 3rd movie but just as a fabrication of the danger room. Yet another bubble poped!

I say we need for Havok (scott's brother), Psylocke and Gambit to be the new addition of the X-men. And they could fight... i dunno how bout Mr. Sinister and White queen, which she would become part of the X-men at the end realising that she was decieved by him... how's that for the next x-men movie???

speaking of havok, have you ever read meltdown? it was a 3 issue limited series from epic comics, havok and wolverine take on a freaky villain called meltdown..now that would make a good movie. any movie with the white queen in it id watch..now who would you cast in that role??
Shaman
Shaman - 11/14/2008, 7:24 AM
Dude!!! Happy to see you on board for this! I'm a total white queen nutt job fan and for her role the only actrice i think would be ABSOFREAKINLY PERFECT is TRACI LORDS!!! She can act like the best of'em, she's the sexiest thing on two legs, she played a bad girl in the opening of Blade1 and had a kick ass/good girl role in the tv show First Wave. Give her a white wig and lipstick and of course the skin tight white uniform and just watch her blow up are freakin minds!!!! Shit if i get my wish, i'll go see that movie at least once a week till it's out of theaters!!!! I haven't read the comic series your reffering to but from the sound of it, i'd love it!!! What do you guys think?????

mmm I can see a Schindler's list with Magneto sort of thing happening (I wouldn't see it though).

Guess they have to do X-men origins since they either killed or removed the powers of all mutants in X-men 3.

I'd really like to see Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in a movie (although their costumes even for comic standards were always terrible). Now white queen is an extremely cool idea (she is one of the best female characters ever). Now for Psylocke, sorry I always had a problem with her (firts she's british, then she's asian, then she's not asian, then her powers are mystic and not because of mutation).

Now Apocalypse won't probably happen but I'd love to see the Acolytes. The thing with Gambit, is that most likely Cable won't be far behind, and timestream stories should be left on Back to the Future. Mr. Sinister has to appear on a damn movie, his visuals are just to cool to waste.

An age of apocalypse would be a way to bring all the dead an powerless characters from that timeline to this one, although how to explain the M'Kraan crystal in less than 60 hours of film beats me.
