Magneto Movie Cancelled!

Magneto Movie Cancelled!

With word of Singer's return to X-Men, the Hollywood Reporter inquires into the future of other superhero movies in development, most notably Magneto.

The following is taken directly from ign.com...

"Yeah, so that young Magneto movie that David Goyer was supposedly working on? It's dead. Not that this news comes as any great surprise to anyone who has even sorta been following the development of Fox's X-Men franchise lately.

Aside from the complete and utter lack of forward momentum on the project in recent months, word came last week that Bryan Singer was returning to the franchise he started to direct X-Men: First Class, an origin/prequel tale about Marvel's band of merry mutants. The thing is, part of that story is to involve the young Magneto and his relationship with the young Professor Xavier. That seemed to be the nail in the Magneto solo-film coffin, and now Singer has pretty much confirmed as much.

"This story would probably utilize some of the Magneto story because it deals with a young Magneto, so it might supersede that because this would explore that relationship between a young energetic professor and a disenfranchised victim of the Holocaust," the director tells The Hollywood Reporter. "But no, I don't see an exhaustion [of the franchise]. The X-Men universe is boundless. These are great characters. And as young characters, they are quite different than the characters we have seen in the contemporary movies."

Singer also says that in all likelihood his other project, Jack the Giant Killer, will go into production before First Class."

Thank God. We've already had too many X-men films about Wolverine and Magneto anyway

YES!!!!!!!

Magneto was overused in the three X-Men movies and he'll probably be overused in First Class as well...besides, his origin could be done in 20mins and IMO isnt interesting enough to warrent its own movie!!

Probably a good idea.

This is a very good move. Magneto's origin was extremely unnecessary to be made into a full movie.

Now they can focus more on bringing the X-Men themselves back into their former glory with First Class.

good deal. To hell with that whole idea, and as a matter of fact I kind of knew that they could combine the two. In fact they already kind of have.

One can easily extrapolate that Singer will probably continue going along with what's been done already.

BEST news about this movie i've heard so far. Mr. Singer, from one of your doubters.... welcome back.

Magneto's one of my favorite villains... I find this good and bad, good as they probably would have screwed it up like Wolverine and bad because my favorite villain won't get a movie now...

Honestly, I can say I'm not excited to see Singer return to the X-Men Franchise, also not excited about First Class. But we'll see perhaps this will change when we start seeing more from it.

I new it! So they are just going to include him in First Class?

I for one say, "Suck it, Singer!" BY YOUR OWN ADMISSION, you:

a. Don't LIKE comic books!
b. Never READ a comic book!
c. Based your X-Men work on a CARTOON and your Superman piece on outdated films!

...and you people welcome him back like he's the second coming WHY?! 'YES' I will agree, the first X film was interesting... FOR IT'S TIME (kinda' like Burton's 'Batman'), but people, WE'VE MOVED ON! The novelty has worn off! It's time to hand the material to people who actually CARE about it and will treat it with the respect and dignity it so richly deserves!

Magneto is an important character but so is Lex Luthor. We all know what happens when villains are over used in movies. Let's bring in some Sentinels or Mister Sinister.

Honestly they need to just relaunch the Franchise, it's been horridly Graped (remove the G) in it's current incarnation. This is one of the few times a reset is really in order.

I wonder what this movie will be called now. should it still be called first class? IMO the 'x-men' banner on a movie poster has taken a serious credibility hit after x3 and wolverine. i wonder if they'll stick with 'first class' or what??

Its only good news if they focus on an alternative instead..otherwise its just another CBM that didn't get made..even if you don't think the character deserves his own movie, thats still never a good thing.
Joker1zero
Joker1zero - 12/29/2009, 12:40 PM
hopefully they'll bring in a new enemy like Mr. Sinister or something. That'd be awesome.

comicbookjerk - 12/29/2009, 12:44 PM
@ Joker1Zero

After the events of Wolverine *Crapagains* the Only Logical Ending would have been Sinister was the reason behind everything, I mean he was always after Cyclops, But then your left with some lame ending of a Dude walking and Deapool going Shhhhh. So Yeah First Class would be great with sinister after Scott Summers.

skot, i like how you broke that down with graped i couldent of said it any better myself

I agree, Mr. Sinister would be the tits, but maybe they should save him for X4, or they could always use Sinister in First Class and then go with Apocalypse for X4.

Everyone may as well give up anything concerning any X villain that isn't named, or working with Magneto.

It seems as far as the movies go, Magneto is to the
X-Men what Luther is to Superman.

(THEIR ONE AND ONLY ENEMY...EVER!!!)

@loganoniel

I completely agree with you, man. I don't understand it either.

The second coming of Singer is the second coming of more disapointment IMO.

...and "First Class" by Fox is a bad deal for us, also IMO.

All they really need is a quick flashback to Magneto's origin in First Class. He does not need his own movie.

Lee: You make no sense. You famously declare your hatred of Wolverine, yet you say a Magneto Origins movie would be totally amazing and needs to be made. That's some ass-backwards logic.

You obviously have never read any history or comics to do with MAGNETOS past!! Its very rich and interesting, get a trade dude, their amazing!

Lee: I know it doesn't automatically mean it will be crap. I never even said that.

I was saying that it makes no sense for you to declare that a Magneto movie would be amazing (if you said it COULD be amazing, I might see your point) even though you proclaim your utter hatred of the other X-Men Origins movie on pretty much every article related to Marvel. Just like you're telling me it isn't automatic crap, it isn't automatic awesomeness either.

My point is that Magneto doesn't need an entire film to encompass his origins. A flashback (or flashbacks) in First Class are perfectly sufficient to get the job done.
