X-Men: Apocalypse is slated for release on May 27, 2016, and director Bryan Singer has been eager to upload teasers for fans via his
Instagram profile. Singer started uploading teasers for the next X-Men film way back in November (he began with a picture of construction in what appears to be Ancient Egypt), and his most recent upload is one of the most mysterious yet. Check it out below:
As you can see, the image features three containers, each showing the silhouette of a suit, in front of a green screen. What is really interesting about the tease is Singer's caption "Reminds me of #area51 #roswell". Now, we know that the CIA will be involved in the upcoming X-Men film, as Rose Byrne is set to reprise the role of CIA Agent Moira MacTaggert. We don't know much of anything about the revised timeline in the X-Men Universe, but it is possible the mutants could be working WITH the government at this point in time, as at the end of
X-Men: Days of Future Past, the Sentinel program had been cut as the world saw Mystique's actions as a mutant saving the POTUS, so the mutants could actually be liked in this universe (I wouldn't expect that to stick, though, as this IS the X-Men, after all. They have a tendency to draw the short straw more often than not). Of course, there is also the possibility that the suits are actually costumes being held at the X-Mansion, but that would make the military-stencil font style seem somewhat out of place. Its also worth mentioning that the two silhouettes on either side seem to look tailored to fit the female form, whereas the one in the middle is suited to a male build.
But what do you guys think? Could they be the CIA trying to contain the mutants's powers? Are they the comic book accurate X-Men costumes we've heard rumours about? Do they even belong to the mutants, or could it just be something along the lines of CIA operative gear being held for field assignments? We'll be able to find out for sure when X-Men: Apocalypse lands in cinemas next May next year.
