Orlando Bloom has apparently been Swashbuckling his way onto the silver screen over the past few years, and even crossing swords with the likes of Johnny Depp in the Caribbean; but it seems that lately he is taking on a new type of role that he has, apparently, never done the likes of before ~ as we can clearly witness from the provided video done by Entertainment Tonight!
Later this year he will once again be wearing a period costume to do yet another Swashbuckling story on screen, that has itself been done quite a few times in different versions of comic books all throughout the 1900’s.
If we remember the Three Musketeer movie done by Disney in 1993 (starring Chris O’Donnell, Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, and Oliver Platt), we just might remember hearing their characters explain that a certain Duke of Buckingham controls England, much the same way as Cardinal Richelieu rules France. But we never got a chance to see the Duke in that movie – even though he was portrayed in other Musketeer movies in the past. However, and hang onto your plumed hats (if you have one, that is) for Orlando Bloom will be taking on the role of the sly Duke himself in the upcoming Three Musketeer movie at the end of this year! And, according to the provided video, as Orlando says so himself, he will be living up to the nastiness that the 1993 film promised that the Duke had!
But what sort of a man was the real Duke, though? Was he as nasty as the modern entertainment says he is? Well, much in the same way as the 1993 film portrayed Cardinal Richelieu in a far worst light than he actually was, the Duke, even though vain in his own way, and careless to some great measure, was no more than a rich politician of his day was expected to be! Not really nasty, but very eccentric.
However, and even so, the new Three Musketeer movie seems promising that it may be very entertaining to watch, even if it misses its historical mark somewhat . . . but hey, isn’t that what having fun at the movies is all about? And let’s watch Orlando “Bloom” into a villainous role, shall we? . . . . And, oh yes – please pardon the bad pun!
