KICK-ASS Star Nicolas Cage Shares An Update And Story Details For Long-Rumored FACE/OFF Sequel

After confirming he won't return as Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Nicolas Cage has addressed the status of another project he's been linked to, a sequel to 1997's Face/Off...

Face/Off arrived in theaters way back in 1997, and with John Woo at the helm and an all-star cast led by Nicolas Cage and John Travolta, the movie managed to strike a chord with moviegoers. A critical and commercial hit, it even managed to land an Oscar nomination (for "Best Effects, Sound Effects Editing," but still).

The very weird and very 90s plot as Travolta's FBI agent, Sean Archer, go undercover as Cage's villainous terrorist, Castor Troy. How did he pull that off? With advanced technology that allowed him to switch faces with the baddie, and as unique a premise as it may be, fans have spent years hoping some sort of follow-up could pick up with Archer and Troy again.

During a recent interview with Collider (via ActioNewz.com), Cage revealed the pitch he's heard for a Face/Off 2, but confirms talks didn't really go too far beyond that stage.

"I think Face/Off is a sequel that lends itself to a lot of twists and turns and unpredictability. It's almost like if you factor in the idea of offspring and Castor and Sean having children and these children grow up, then it becomes like three-dimensional chess."

"And then it's not just the two, John Travolta and myself, it's four of us ping-ponging and going at different levels, and it becomes even more complex," the legendary actor added. "I think there's a lot of fertile ground there. I had maybe one meeting in an office, but I haven't heard anything since, so I don't know."

We've heard a variety of updates over the years, with the latest being that Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard planned to helm a direct sequel back in 2021. He's since been busy with that kaiju franchise, of course, so it may just be a case now of making sure everyone's schedules align so the movie can finally become a reality.

The First one is such a classic.
I hope that if they do make a sequel they nail it , and Nic and John have enough screen time.

cage’s pitch sounds so interesting but i feel like the film won’t be anywhere near as good since it’s still an adam wingard film and not a john woo one

Fun movie. Although there were a lot cooler combinations considered before they got him and travolta

Stallone and Schwarzenegger
Van Dame and Segal
Pacino and De Niro
Douglas and Ford
Willis and Baldwin

The movie doesn't need a sequel.

It was an acting tour de force with Travolta pretending to be Cage and Cage pretending to be Travolta.

Trying to figure out how Castor Troy is going to be brought back since he was killed at the end.

But this is a film that suspends realism a bit by switching faces and altering body composition.

They cryogenically preserved Castor Troy!!

Rewatch the original and call it a day. It was ridiculous movie but it was fun as hell to watch Cage as Travolta and Travolta as Cage.

The original movie was a wonky enough concept, but as far as 90's action movies go...

So... anyone else feeling like the "three dimensional chess" metaphor is getting a little over-played these days? I mean, I can claim that right now I'm playing three dimensional chess with my wife as to who's going to take the trash out tonight (she's currently gathering the downstairs trash and I'm gathering the upstairs trash, but who's going to be the final trash-master?) Just sayin'

"KICK-ASS Star Nicolas Cage"

Why mention him as a star of a movie that came out ten years ago? Why not use a more recent movie of his?
