Zack Snyder Responds To THE BOYS' "Dawn Of The Seven" JUSTICE LEAGUE Parody Zack Snyder Responds To THE BOYS' "Dawn Of The Seven" JUSTICE LEAGUE Parody

Yesterday, Prime Video shared a trailer for film-within-a-show Dawn of the Seven, and The Boys season 3 promo video was clearly meant as a parody of Justice League. Now, director Zack Snyder has responded.

In the world of Prime Video's The Boys, the members of The Seven star as themselves in a series of Vought International-produced superhero movies, and season 3 will feature the world premiere of "Dawn of The Seven: The Bourke Cut."

Clearly parodying the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, the fictional film's trailer spotlights a major scene that needed to be reshot when Stormfront's past was made public in the season 2 finale. The footage sees Homelander distance himself from his former lover ("guess this means we're breakin' up... Nazi bitch") as his teammates rally to take on the powerful supe.

The show has taken swipes at DC and Marvel movies in the past (that's kinda the whole point), but it's all in good fun, and Snyder is clearly taking this parody in his stride.

PJ Byrne, who plays Dawn of the Seven director Adam Bourke, responded in-character.

Season 2 of The Boys ended with the death of Butcher's wife and the apparent disbanding of the team. We know they will reunite, however, most likely in attempt to bring down the increasingly psychotic Homelander. Queen Maeve was able to blackmail her rage-fuelled leader into backing off in the finale, but actor Anthony Starr has already confirmed that he will really let loose in Season 3.

It's also been confirmed that the highly controversial Herogasm comic book arc will be adapted, and showrunner Eric Kripke has hinted that the episode will be every bit as depraved as the comic.

Season 3 of The Boys is set to premiere on June 3.

Are people really liking the Snyder movies or is this like a Morbius thing?

@Crtdacct2say - my personal theory: Man of Steel was alright and Marvel was quickly rising to the top with the first Avengers movie. So the fanbase, which was very much believing itself to be at war with the MCU fanbase, put all their money on Zack transporting DC above the heights of Marvel.
When his movies turned out less than stellar the fanbase had already made it's choice, they couldn't walk back on what they said before ("Zack's going to kill Marvel" etc) even if they maybe didn't love what he did with BvS.
So they forced themselves to love it, now it's a borderline cult because they fought so hard to enjoy these movies and only got shelling after shelling.

@Blergh - and not to forget that the media really bought in on the whole Marvel vs. DC train and Snyderfans vs. Critics trend.
It was hard to admit you didn't like a Snyder film as much as you praised it before release.
People don't like to admit that they were wrong

And some people just love edge

@Blergh - Yeah, the thing about teams and fanbases is nowadays is they will defend about anything because it’s their cause. I’ve fallen into that before with sports teams and I see it everyday. For anyone who understands, I had been a Browns fan for around 15 years. They were garbage for 13 of those years. Yet even when their roster was god awful and they literally won 1 game in 2 years, I would still act as if there were things people weren’t seeing and they’re better than people say. The instant defense was insane and I couldn’t help. It wasn’t until recently that the organization did something unforgivable that I stepped away, and sometimes people need that slap in the face by their idols to see how blinded they’d been.

@GameOn - nowadays

Ha ha ha no. On a surface level there's a reason it is called a "Console War," Nintendo vs Sega was huuuuuuuuge, then Nintendo vs Playstation, Playstation vs X-Box, but even then the behavior exists in sports fandoms, cars, early movie studios ... basically it started whenever a second thing was created. This is, in no way shape or form, a new thing.

Zack Snyder only has himself and his cronies at Warner Brothers to blame for the ridicule they get. Instead of utilizing the immensely popular and profitable Dark Knight Trilogy and combining it with Man of Steel and taking Christopher Nolan’s lead in how to approach super hero films, he chose to reboot Batman with an actor the general audience rightly railed against. To say that and the direction he went for the DC universe was a bad idea is an understatement !

The rest is a very unfortunate history for DC! If Warner Brothers ever wants to compete with Marvel they should ignore everything that is DC related that happened after Man of Steel and start over again at the point before everything went to hell.

@Forthas -

Too late for that.

The 'Man of Steel' brand associated with Cavill is irreparably damaged.

Time to move on.
Forthas
Forthas - 5/21/2022, 9:18 AM
@JohnPain - I disagree! We have seen time after time that fans maintian their interest in characters no matter how long ago they were first introduced (Avatar, Top Gun, and Tobey McGuire Spiderman) or even if they started off poorly and simply rebooted with the same actor in the role (Deadpool).

@Forthas -

Which fans?

Most who are fans of Cavill's Man of Steel are SnyderVerse fans - and if you reboot it and ignore them they'll disown it.

Easier to move on with a new version.

@JohnPain - I disagree!

There is no data to suggest that the general AUDIENCE did not like Man Of Steel. While CRITICS did not like Man of Steel because they expected a remake of the Donner films, most fans seem to like it. The RT audience score for Man of Steel is 75% and you will be shocked to learn its Cinema Score is A-. BOTH of those scores are the exact same as Captain America the First Avenger and that is one of the great super hero trilogies.

They are trying to move on with the current iteration of Batman and I don't think that it has been received as well as many at WB beleived it should...box office wise. The Batman was a decent film and did well at the box office, yet the corosive effect of rebooting super heroes has taken its toll as c-list character Dr. Strange is about to overtake it at the box office. The LAST thing to do now is to reboot Superman and continue to corrode the brand.

@Forthas - You can't argue there's no data suggesting general audiences didn't like something and then in the next breath insist general audiences did in fact like that something.

If there's no data for one there's no data for the other.

Edit: By the way, the Audience Score (As laughable an indicator as that is) also has Thor Dark World at 75% and A- Cinema Score, and the box office difference is almost negligible ($668m for MoS, $644m for DW). I've been assured over the years that that wasn't a good movie and audiences didn't like it.

@Forthas - Nobody went into MOS wanting/expecting a remake of the Donner films. All of the MOS trailers made it clear this was a whole different Superman from the Donner films. The trailers raised my expectations so high but the film was just so dull and void of any heart. Bad acting from Cavill and no chemistry with Amy Adams are just a few reasons why critics didn't like MOS.

@Reeds2Much - You somehow misunderstood what I meant. Let me break it down. There IS data that measures what the audience thinks. There is no data that says any of those measurments indicate the majority of the general audience (by consensus) did not like Man of Steel.

As far as Thor Dark World goes, that is not a terrible film. You may not like it and people generally and rightly identify it as one of the weaker Marvel films but that does not mean most people would regard it as an overall bad film. My reading is that people regard it as midling. To Marvel's credit, they did not stop making Thor films. They just went in a different direction narratively BUT USED THE SAME ACTOR! Thus why they are successful and DC is not.

@Forthas - that is not a terrible film. You may not like it

So you're going to argue against facts with retroactive continuity? Good luck there.
Forthas
Forthas - 5/21/2022, 12:42 PM
@obredaan - I am not even going to argue that Man of Steel did not have problems even though I believe it is grossly underrated. Your criticism as to why critics did not like Man of Steel.

"...but the film was just so dull"
What movie did they watch? That film had TONS of action scenes. I dare you to name a film that had more. I don't think even Endgame had more. It had one epic battle at the end that followed the Avengers going on boring missions in time. Man of Steel had the Attack on Krypton, saving the oil rig workers, and the first flight and that happens BEFORE the other Krytonians even get to earth which launches a whole new set of action scenes.

"...void of any heart"
discovering ones purpose in the world does not provide enough heart?

"Bad acting from Cavill"
Sorry, I just don't agree

"...no chemistry with Amy Adams"
Yeah! He just met her.

The REAL reason that critics did not like Man of Steel is because critics only vision of Superman was the one Christopher Reeve gave them. Because it did not meet that expectation, they dismissed it and there is proof. Looking at Superman Returns Rotten Tomatoes score which did try to copy Reeves Superman was liked by critics (74%) but not as much by the audience (61%). The reason there is such a difference between Man of Steel and Superman Returns when comparing audience and critic response is because critics used their pre-established expecations to judge the film. the audience understood that Snyder moved on and the character needed to evolve to a more modern take.

@Forthas - Where do you see it is a bad films?

Years of social media observation, this site included. People have been arguing Man of Steel is a good movie, but Thor Dark World is a bad film for years when they both have the same (again, laughable sources for this very reason) scores across the board. Take it up with them, I'm just pointing out how it has been. I can't stop you from pretending otherwise, but I can laugh at how historically inaccurate your stance would be.

@Reeds2Much -

"Years of social media observation"

Are you kidding me? That is your "proof"? While admittedly Rotten Tomatoes is not perfect, it is the best thing we have so I use it. It is based on a consensus model. So unless you have better data than that, Rotten Tomatoes wins.

Reeds2Much - 5/21/2022, 2:06 PM
@Forthas - My proof is better than yours. For instance I just looked up Iron Man 3. Higher box office, higher Tomato score, higher Audience scores. Reviled by the general audience.

So unless you have any actual data, then my flawed data is still superior than your lack of any data at all.

"Excited to see your vision realized" could be taken either way... a swipe at the director or a pat on the back.

...in part because the trailer had a lot of zak feel in it, not the 'vision' of the actual director.
