FilmJunk. com is reporting that J.J. Abrams and his company, Bad Robot Productions, will be co-producing the upcoming feature film based on the character of Samarai Jack. The film is being distributed by Paramount Films, which according to the article, will help make sure that the film does not go direct to DVD.

The movie will be done in a “2D/stereoscopic 3D production” to help keep the original feel of the show. It is being speculated that the budget will be in the ball park of about $20 million.

ecksmanfan- Now, I'm not a HUGE follower of the show, but from what I've seen, it seems like a pretty good show. Thought I'd pass the info along.

hey necrosage if you didnt like the show jsut say you didnt like it and dont bash it withour good reasons, the animation of the cartoon may not be what appeals to you however the style of it is actually very difficult to animate while having it flow so smoothly , the story was actually very well done along with the action scenes, during its airing samurai jack was noted for its creativity and good development of storyline, characters, backdrops etc which led to the show winning an emmy which clearly shows that this cartoon is the opposite of what you stated, you most likely watched it for 5 mins , said : oh wow another samurai cartoon" and changed the channel

JJ Abrams should do Superman. But with as many problem keep arising, who knows when we will see Superman on the big screen.

@necrosage2005, yo bro Samauri Jack was an animated masterpiece. This just proves to show that stupid people make stupid comments. Keep it moving playa.

Maybe they should do to Samurai Jack what they did to StarWars' Clone Wars, with the traditional 2-d cartoon being transferred into CGI animation....or is that what the poster of this news is telling us?
And I agree with everyone here, Necrosage2005 is making a nutsack of himself.

Hey guys! He's allowed to have his own opinion. I liked the show but he's allowed to not like it. It's not for everyone. If it were it wouldn't have been canceled so soon... without an ending...
thwhtGuardian
thwhtGuardian - 11/30/2009, 9:33 PM
I think it was canceled purely due to budgetary concerns rather than ratings though.

But I'm not down for bashing someone for holding a contrary opinion. I loved the animation style, and the split screen "repetitive" action sequences were great in my opinion, they reminded me of the cinematography of some of the old kung fu movies I grew up on. And even though the story was a blatant rip off of Miller's Ronin concept, it was still fun to watch. I can't wait for this movie!

This would be awesome as a live action or animation on the big screen. That show helped put Cartoon Network on the map. Mabey in the future we could see a Venture Brothers movie??? HELL YEAH!

I grew up with Jack back in the day, but I never was a fan. HOWEVER, if Abrams is doing it, then I'll be there. Hell, Abrams can direct a My Little Pony movie and I'll probably still watch it, lol.

different strokes for different folks. I didn't mind ang's split screens in the first hulk either, I loved how the old samurai movies used to do that so I thought it was a nice touch. But that's just my taste, I can totally see how that style can be off putting.

how many samurai cartoons are there? well we live in world where anime exists and is shown all over the world so to put it simply, there are a lot of samurai cartoons. And secondly you were bashing the show, if you had said "i don't like this show because i don't like the art style / i think the storyline wasn't that good" then i wouldn't say anything because that is just an honest opinion. and i agree that it was canceled for budget reasons because cartoon networks shows don't usually get emmys so the ratings must have been good

I think Keanu Reeves should play Jack.
