After a negative review of Citizen Kane from 80 years ago resurfaced, the classic movie dropped to 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, and that makes Paddington 2 the top-rated movie on the website. Check it out...

Everyone loves the Paddington movies, but who knew they were this highly regarded? Citizen Kane has been the top-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes for a long time with a huge number of positive verdicts from critics pulled from the past eight decades. However, after a negative review resurfaced, the classic title has dropped from 100% to 99%.

As you can see below, an eighty-year-old review from the Chicago Tribune’s Mae Tinée with the headline "'Citizen Kane' Fails to Impress Critic as Greatest Ever Filmed' was responsible for this change in score, and it's had some unexpected consequences.

Now, Paddington 2 has earned the accolade of being the top-rated release on Rotten Tomatoes, and based solely on reviews, that essentially makes it the greatest movie ever made! It has 100% based on 244 reviews, and a Critics Consensus that reads: "Paddington 2 honors its star's rich legacy with a sweet-natured sequel whose adorable visuals are matched by a story perfectly balanced between heartwarming family fare and purely enjoyable all-ages adventure."

This is a big win for the Paddington franchise, and something we have to imagine will factor into the marketing campaign for Paddington 3 (which is officially in the works).

Sorry, Citizen Kane; you're no match for a Marmalade sandwich loving bear...

Fun fact: I've never seen Citizen Kane or either two Paddingtons.

Thats kind of sad

Orson Wells, one of the true greats, did everything within his rights to make movies the way he wanted to, even financing them himself

This reminds me that I really should start watching both Citizen Kane and the Paddington movies

@bkmeijer - Do it at the same time. They totally sync up.

You'd have to have a heart of stone to give either Paddington movie a bad review.

Paddington beat Citizen Kane and Casablanca?

One really good movie that has 100% is Singing In The Rain

Like the movie, but didnt expect it to have 100%

@dracula - Singing in the Rain is hilariously slapdash at times (I love how they have the one character pitch that musical number to pad out the runtime that has nothing to do with either the film that they’re making or the film that we’re watching) but so much of that film is just so charming and entertaining that you just don’t care.

@dracula - A totally deserved score if you ask me, the movie is a lot of fun. Great humor, great music, great dancing I can't look away when it's on.

So according to Rotten Tomatoes.... Paddington 2 is the best movie of all time? Or at least the most well liked? In film history?

I call bullshit.

@ElricReturns - Rotten Tomatoes is more a measure of 'least diskliked" rather than "most liked".

Given that a movie only needs a 3/5 or a 51% to be given a positive score, I am a bit surprised their aren't loads more 100% perfect scores.

@ElricReturns - But it is the best movie of all time tho
Fares

@ElricReturns - The percentage you see on the website is simply the percentage of critics that found the movie to be worthwhile. It doesn't matter what score each of them gave the movie as long as it was positive. And at the end of the day, you only judge a movie for what it sets out to do and how well it sits with you. Seemingly Paddington does what it sets out to do flawlessly, and everyone loved it that way. Forget the notion of best movie of all time. The art is highly volatile and subjective.

@Fares - I can't believe nobody gave Paddington 2 a bad review. I mean there are some shit critics out there with asshole opinions, who will give something a bad review because it wasn't their cup of tea.

@ElricReturns - It is a rare occurance for sure. Maybe those critics saw the poster and simply thought "I don't want to watch this".
Chewtoy

@ElricReturns - Some Armond White will see this announcement and be sure to write a negative review of Paddington 2 as a result.
