Collider is reporting that Chloë Grace Moretz has signed on to star as the human lead in Warner Bros.' upcoming live-action/CG hybrid
Tom and Jerry movie.
Moretz will play an original character named Kayla, a new employee at a posh hotel where Jerry takes up residence and subsequently threatens to ruin a glamorous wedding with his presence. To solve her problem, Kayla hires a broke alley cat named Tom to get rid of Jerry, but, of course, that doesn't exactly go according to plan. The situation gets even worse when Kayla's villainous boss enters the picture and looks to exterminate them both.
Both Tom Cat and Jerry Mouse will be animated and will be silent characters, just like in the original cartoon.
Tim Story (
Fantastic Four,
Shaft) is directing with a script that reportedly had contributions from Katie Silberman (
Booksmart), April Prosser (
The Last Summer) and Kevin Costello (
Brigsby Bear).
The fan-favorite Moretz is likely best known for her role in the Kick-Ass franchise, but her recent credits include, but are not limited to,
Greta,
Suspiria,
The Miseducation of Cameron Post,
November Criminals, and
Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.
