3 Mangas that I think would translate well into a live action movie

As we all know, most Manga (Asian equivalent of comics) does not or has not been translated well into movies. Death Note and Dragon Ball are two huge examples of this. Usually due to poorly casted actors, bad scripts, and a really cheap budget, most of these films end up sucking really bad. Some of them just don’t even translate well into movies simply because it’s too outlandish. So what mangas would work as Live Action Movies? Click The link to find out

1.I Luv Halloween-I Luv Halloween is an American written Manga for Tokyopop that stars a few little devilishly screwed in the head children on a night of trick or treating. You’ve got an interesting cast of characters, lots of dark humor, and potential horror movie themes. This move would translate well because it would be low budget and it’s fairly easy to adapt a story like this. I imagine being adapted as an R rated horror-comedy directed by the guys who did Zombieland with the script writer from Shaun of the Dead. Budget-$25 million

Dream Director-Ruben Fleischer(Zombieland)-Zombieland was a horror comedy of sorts so why not add the guy who directed it?

Dream Script Writers-Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg(Shaun of the Dead)-tow excellent writers in the horror comedy genre would be perfect for this

2.Jing: King of Bandits-Imagine this: A 17-19 year old master thief travels the world to steal exotic (often weird) treasures with the help of his flying bird and they have to take down unique opponents in a climax of sorts. It may seem like it’s been done before, but not in this specific context. A lot of the imagery is really weird and screwballed. It would be a good adaptation because people love films about master thieves. Imagine James Bond being a master treasure thief. That’s what this film and character would pretty much be. The film would be James bond-Meets RED-meets-The Italian Job. Sounds cool right? Budget-$115 million for the weird environments and cgi/costumes needed

Dream Director-Marc Foster(Quantum of Solace) A guy like this could be pretty good to direct a film like this. He has done Bond work before

Dream Script Writer-Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island)-Shutter Island has some good heist/escape scenes written in so I thought Laeta would be good for this job

3.Ninja Scroll-Ninja Scroll is one of my favorite movies in the anime market and a good mangas as well so I think a live action version would be cool. It’s easily adaptable because people love ninja and kung fu movies and this could capitalize on that. Plus, al the unique characters and intricate fight scenes would certainly make it stand out amongst the others. I see it being adapted as a Ninja Assassin type film (hopefully starring Rain as well) but with a deeper plot. Budget-$155 million

Dream Director-James Mcteigue-Having him return for a similar film would be pretty good if you ask me

Dream Script Writer-Rhett Reese (Deadpool)-The action scenes in the leaked Deadpool script were great and I’m sure he could write just as good ones for this film.

So I hope you enjoyed reading this and tell me what you think

the most easiest to adapt and the greatest potential is Hellsing. Choices are not bad though. Surprised no ones tried to adapt hellsing with all the vampire craze going on. Alucard would rip that twilight sparkly vampire wannabe

Last I heard, WB was producing the Ninja Scroll movie.

On the subject of Ninja Assassin, people thought it was actually going to be Ninja Scroll when it was first announced.

@marvel72- Mixed race cast if needed for FMA? Arakawa, the creator of the series, has said she based Amestris in a mix of coutries during the Industrial Revolution period. Especially England, but not restricted to it of course. So of course a mixed race cast is most deff needed. Its one of the series that would make the most sense to have mixed races in film. other than that i agree with you... kind of.

Full Metal Alchemist has potential to be an awesome live action movie, I would also love to see Gungrave and Hellsing.

@marvel72

I completely agree with you, but that doesn't mean hollywood shouldn't try to adapt an anime. in fact if Keanu Reeves wasn't cast as Spike, Cowboy Bebop would probably be the perfect anime for hollywood to adapt to the big screen. (James Franco would be my ideal Spike)

@marvel72: ed and al and there parents and i guess winry and her grandmother are german so yeah a mixed cast would be 'needed'

Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, Ruroni Kenshin (only in Japan though) and Gundam (before we die) would be awesome on the big screen. And I agree with @Bandrews1 Fullmetal has great potential to be an awesome film, if done right.

a cowboy bebop movie is long overdue, I think keanu is too old to play Spike now. James Franco would be perfect as Spike. Mickey Rourke as Jet, Jennifer Connelly as Faye, Dakota Fanning as Edward, and Timothy Olyphant as Vicious

@soberchimera61- i like most of your choices except dakota fanning as Ed... just doesn't feel right to me. But Rourke as Jet?! Awesome!

Ninja Scroll? Did that even have an original plot? Ugh.

Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, Akira, and maybe Trigun.

I would be all over a decent Ninja Scroll film, but it would have to be hardcore R and not Americanized! How does InfiniteMonkey have issues? He is pretty accurate with what he wrote.

Death Note has already had a decent live action film, in my opinion. Not that many people are familiar with it though.

@toughgrappler: the live action gundam wasnt made in america, it was a canadian straight to dvd movie. hollywood had no part in it.

Code geass could be awesome, but hollywood would undoubtedly americanize it but it would still be bad ass. just to see the serie's ending in live action.................badass!

samurai x all asian cast would be awesome also. trust and betrayal is great!

i did a similar article like this a while back Weed. you should check it out.

i haven't commented on this site in so long!

I love King of Bandits! its definitely a series that needs more attention. i'm not exactly sure how well it would translate as a live action film though... i guess (if it happened) they could try to make it into a crime/heist movie

Ninja Scroll is being made into live action movies, that's very old news.
Appian Way which is Leonardo DiCaprio's company and Warner Bros. bought the rights awhile ago, like 3 years ago.
There were rumors that Leonardo DiCaprio was going to star in it but Leo debunked that rumor in 2008 and said that he was only producing it, thank god.
If you don't believe me, do a google search, I'm sure some of those old articles are still floating around on the net, but I read that info in Variety years ago.

Ninja Scroll will be will be produced by Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way, with Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Mike Ireland producing. Appian is mounting the film as a co-production with Mad House.
Alex Tse has been set to write the script.

Yes there was a movie called G-Saviour. If memory serves me right, it didnt do very well :/

Another title that would be fun to adapt would be Infinite Ryvius...go for the whole sci-fi twist of Lord of the Flies
