For the past decade, Attack on Titan has advanced its story with political intrigue and interesting characters, along with the horror and action that attract a wide viewer-base. Now, the fourth and final season of the anime has officially launched.

Funimation set up interviews with five of the main voice actors from the series, who play Mikasa, Hange, Eren, Connie, and Armin, so we could chat with each of them about what attracted them to the series and how their characters have progressed over time.

Josh Grelle (My Hero Academia, Halo Legends), the voice actor who is responsible for the English dub version of Armin Arlelt, spoke with us about why the series and his character appeal to him. He dug deep into why sharing moments with Armin over time has been so fulfilling for him, as well as why he feels his character is well-written.

"Probably Armin's character arc more than anything. Very rarely in anime, as actors, do we get the opportunity, at least in my experience, to play characters that go through so much and change so much over the course of a story. And Armin's one of those characters. And so many of these characters in this show are written with such humanity in them. I guess I really can't think of another way to put it than that it feels like a realistic progression to me.

And, that's like chewing on a prime steak. It can be some of the most fulfilling work to get to work with a well-written character that you can tell the writer knew where that character was going to go and what their feelings were. And to be able to click with that character in a way that you can go on that journey with them and really appreciate and feel fulfilled by sharing those emotions and sharing those moments and sensations together. It's unreal. That's the art for me, that's what made me want to get into acting. It's the next level of imagination, you know?"

Listen to our full chat with Eren and Armin voice actors Bryce Papenbrook and Josh Grelle below, and be sure to check out the trailer and synopsis for Attack on Titan's final season. Don't forget to share your thoughts in the usual spot!

Among all the characters of Shingeki no Kyojin, Armin is definitely the one who saw the most important growth from a (scared) little boy to a (very reliable) young man. He has never stopped growing, making mistakes, learning from every good or bad experience, becoming a better person as a result.

Armin is also clearly written to be a foil to Eren. Their respective evolutions are meant to reflect each other. The more they keep growing, the more they become polar opposites of each other and we have seen how their morals and their visions of the world have ended up clashing, putting some serious strain on their friendship.
