A mysterious space pirate of the future, Captain Harlock, is determined to return his death ship and loyal crew to a battered Earth, which has been declared off-limits by the intergalactic Gaia Coalition. The rogue captain comes up with an incredible plan to go back in time to rescue Earth, but that includes the destruction of everything, as it exists. A young soldier of the Gaia Coalition volunteers to go undercover on the infamous skull ship and assassinate Harlock, but he soon discovers things are not as they seem. As dark secrets of the past are uncovered, the fate of the entire universe teeters on a very thin edge.

the ancient original 2d Harlock animations were already beautiful and melancholic.

The new 3D movie made a stunning transition. Truly beautiful movie.

@Melkaticox I didn't say it was good. I'm just not culturally attuned to, or dork enough, to watch most of the anime that comes out with the high pitched voices, the immature giggling girls, the overly wide eyed expressions, etc etc. That stuff annoys me.
I did watch The Lensman, Ninja Scroll, Golgo 13, maybe a couple others, back in the day. But most of that stuff....if they took the kiddie shit out of it, it would rock. The themes, sometimes the art, the action....could be great stuff. But they ruin it.
Oh, I did enjoy the Netflix anime series a little, tho I had to fast forward or just do laundry during the "high school" melodrama bull crap. Can't remember what it was called, something about space pilots, mechs, and alien whatevers.

That being said, if you can recommend some that would fit my interest...or rather not fit my DIS-interest, I'd check them out
