Talking with
MTV while promoting her new film
Silent House, Elizabeth Olsen talks briefly about her involvement with
Oldboy, a remake/re-adaptation of the manga and 2003 South Korean film of the same name. Last week, it was reported that
Olsen was offered the female lead in the Spike Lee-directed movie, and judging from her interview with MTV, it sounds like she's going to be in it (the film has had a hard time locking down cast members before; Rooney Mara and Mia Wasikowska have previously been offered Olsen's role before turning it down).
"I don't know if I can talk much about it, expect for the fact that the Korean film is one of my favorite movies," Olsen said.
"It's just one of those films that gets under your skin and surprises you in so many different places. It's just a story with twists and turns that you would never expect."
The below segment involves a major
SPOILER, so for those who haven't seen the original film, skip this section. When asked about the final twist, which reveals an incestuous relationship, Olsen became very protective of her version's secrets.
"Don't! No! You're not allowed to use that. Absolutely not, we're not going there," Olsen said.
"Well, [if] you don't talk about it, it will happen. Do not. Do not!"
"He's one of the most talented directors today, and I think he is a genius," Olsen said concerning director Spike Lee.
"'25th Hour,' for some reason my brother made me watch that when I was in elementary school, and that was one of my favorite movies that Ed Norton's ever done."
