Hot off the heels of Warner Bros. announcing that production on their
Akira project was shut down indefinitely, another manga adaptation,
Oldboy, is also being delayed. Spike Lee's upcoming adaptation (which is also an American remake of the 2003 South Korean film of the same name) was originally slated to begin production this Spring, with actor Josh Brolin in the lead role. However, due to Brolin's press commitments to the third
Men In Black film,
Oldboy will instead begin production in the late summer or early fall, after press on
MIB3 is finished. Variety's
Jeff Sneider broke the story below:
Brolin is the only confirmed cast member right now. Mia Wasikowska and Clive Owen were both offered roles in the film, but it's currently unknown if they had accepted or turned down the offers.

UPDATE: Jeff Sneider just tweeted more bad news concerning the project. Apparently Clive Owen has also turned down the role of the villain, after Colin Firth and Christian Bale turned it down.
