We got our first teaser for Netflix's adaptation of Death Note on Wednesday, and now the streaming service has released the first official photo from the film, showing a meeting between series protagonist Light Turner (Nat Wolff) and the mysterious detective known only as “L” (Keith Stansfield).

Fans of the series may be happy to see that the film will seemingly be preserving L's eccentric quirks and personality, with the photo showing him perched on his chair in the same manner as his anime counterpart. The detective was also glimpsed briefly in the trailer, though his face was covered by his hoodie.

Are you looking forward to the film? Let us know in the comments. Death Note launches on Netflix on August 25, 2017.

Intoxicated by the power of a supernatural notebook, a young man begins killing those he deems unworthy of life. Based on the famous Japanese manga.

@ComicBookPsycho - Too bad he doesn't look anything like him, though, L's look is iconic

@ComicBookPsycho - He's wearing shoes too. Bummer. The little things do matter sometimes. ;-)

Glad they worked in his posture though

@MattBellissimo - Oh yeah, and the weird rubbing his feet together, it's always the little things

@MattBellissimo - Well, he's in a restaurant, so....

@Luminus - Have you watched the anime? He sits like that everywhere, with the police, in the university when he was investigating Light, everywhere

@Luminus - What @ComicBookPsycho said.

@Luminus -

He really doesn't care what people think about him, it's evident through the series, also the way he holds his phone.

@ComicBookPsycho

I watch a lot of things, so I forgot. I stopped remembering fiction so hard, after I realized how much useless Star Trek information I've accumulated.

@Luminus - LOL....I get that

@Luminus - Lol yeah, well, this anime really stuck with me, and also since I only watched it like a year ago, so good though

@Luminus - Yeah... Star Trek trivia is particularly useless except in the nerdiest of contexts. Or maybe if you're competing against an energy being in some sort of game-show for quatloos or something.

@Spock0Clock - Or, if you hangout on the TrekBBS, which I used to, heavily.

So the Trope remains... Super detective that has some odd personal problem/characteristic (i.e., Alcoholic (Jessica Jones), drug attic (Minority Report), etc.)

I can't imagine it being better than the series.

@MattBellissimo - Super detective with a tick is a trope. I've seen the whole series, just in case that's not clear.

@Luminus - Ha, I figured, hence why I deleted my comment!

@Luminus - Tbf, Tvtropes has so many tropes that its covered every portrayable option of a character.

MAJOR SPOILERS from the anime!

So, I don't see any chance in hell that they're gonna kill L then introduce Near and Mello and have them defeat Light, so I see this going in only 2 ways

1- L defeats Light/Kira

2- Light kills L and the police take down Light which would be lame tbh

@ComicBookPsycho - I don't think they'll move through the story that quickly. At least, I hope they don't. Even the Japanese live-action adaptation split the story up between two films, although they changed it heavily. They should have made this a TV series, I'm still quite disappointed it's a movie.

@MattBellissimo - It's a huge bummer that this is a movie, this should have been at least a 16 episode series, there's no way they're gonna cram all of this into a movie unless they change the story drastically.

Shoes? [frick] that noise.

Just curious, most people are going to claim that this show is whitewashed because Light is played by a white guy, but if a black man plays a traditionally asian hero, is that a "blackout"?
MattBellissimo
MattBellissimo - 3/24/2017, 4:50 AM
@Earthbound - Yeah that's already happened.
