Netflix has a number of exciting live-action anime projects in the works, including a series based on Eiichiro Oda's One Piece and Shinichirō Watanabe's Cowboy Bebop. It's the latter that's furthest along, with the series currently filming in New Zealand.

The official Netflix account for the geeky side of the streaming platform has now announced several new additions to the cast:

  • Geoff Stults (Stargirl) as Chalmers, Jet’s ex-partner
  • Tamara Tunie (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) as Ana, Martian club owner
  • Mason Alexander Park (iCarly) as Gren, Ana’s right hand person
  • Rachel House (Thor: Ragnarok as Mao, White Tigers Capo
  • Ann Truong (Hungry Ghosts) as Shin, one of Vicious’s twin henchmen
  • Hoa Xuande (hungry Ghosts) as Lin, one of Vicious’s twin henchmen

Filming on Cowboy Bebop began back in August 2019 but shutdown in October 2019 due to Cho's severe leg injury. A producer on the show confirmed that at the time of Cho's injury, 6 episodes had already been shot with 3 having finished VFX. Netflix gave the show a 10-episode first season.

If this show doesn’t start off with a shot-for-shot remake of the iconic opening, I ain’t watching.

I like this cast, but one thing is bothering me. For this being an anime adaptation, there are no Japanese actors. I mean, everybody is here. Black, White, Hispanic, Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean, but not a single major character is of Japanese descent. A little odd.

@tazmaniak - Well, in any other situation I would agree with you. But Cowboy bebop is one of the few animes that feature characters of all races. In fact, none of the protagonists is Japanese.

I don't know anything about the cast or about Cowboy Bebob, but since it's on Netflix I'll probably watch it anyway
