Evangeline Lilly Reiterates Who Should Play ‘Janet Van Dyne’ In ANT-MAN AND THE WASP
Talking for the first time about returning as Hope Van Dyne in Ant-Man and the Wasp, Evangeline Lilly reveals what she knows about the movie and who she wants to play her mom, the original Wasp.
Prior to the Ant-Man and the Wasp announcement, it was heavily implied that a potential sequel to Marvel's final Phase Two movie would explore the big revelation that Hank Pym's (Michael Douglas) wife and Hope Van Dyne's (Evangeline Lilly) mother, Janet van Dyne the original Wasp, might still be alive somewhere in the quantum realm. And though the winged superheroine was portrayed by a relatively unknown actress in the Ant-Man flashback scene, we only got a close-up of her eyes while helmeted meaning Marvel Studios is free to cast a big name actress for the planned 2018 sequel.
In light of that, Evangeline Lilly was attending the Comic-Con Experience in São Paulo, Brazil over the weekend when she was asked about reprising her Ant-Man role as Hope Van Dyne, taking flight as the (new) Wasp and who she would like to portray her mother. “I do not know anything about Ant-Man and Wasp,” admitted the actress (via Omelete). “Marvel didn’t tell me anything, but wouldn’t it be cool if Hope was behind her mother (?) and if she was played by Michelle Pfeifer?”
That translation might be a little off, but this isn’t the first time that Evangeline Lilly has suggested Michelle Pfeifer for Janet Van Dyne. During press for Ant-Man earlier this year, Lilly said that it was Pfeifer’s role as Catwoman in Batman Returns that inspired this suggestion for the original Wasp. “That was my favorite of all time of all the comic book female characters,” said Lilly previously. “Not just anybody or anything, not even like in the comic books, Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman.” Now that Ant-Man and the Wasp wil open July 6, 2018, with Paul Rudd returning as Scott Lang and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, maybe Evangeline’s wish may come to fruition. What do you think?
