We know that Ant-Man and The Wasp will tie into Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 in some way but it appears as if the sequel's Quantum Realm scenes will feature a number of secrets which tease what comes next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "Like the first movie there are clues in the Quantum Realm to other possibilities and things," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige teased in a recent interview. "I’m talking frames [of film]." In other words, they're going to be hard to spot!
As you may recall, Ant-Man featured a blink and you'd miss it shot of The Wasp in the Quantum Realm and the follow-up will touch on that by chronicling the attempts of Hank Pym, Hope Van Dyne, and Scott Lang to bring her back from there. What these new teases will be isn't clear but they could have ramifications for everything from Avengers 4 to a third Ant-Man and Doctor Strange 2 for all we know.
"We have definitely laid some groundwork for some stuff down there... similar to what we did in the first movie," director Peyton Reed added. "[In the first movie,] it was not until really DVD or Blu-ray release when people started freeze-framing it like ‘Wait a second. There’s a reflection. Is that Wasp down there? Is it Janet?" He concluded by adding: "The Quantum Realm was daunting because the good news is the bad news. Which is it’s infinite and can be whatever you want it to be."
Interestingly, the director went on to say that the area Scott Lang entered in the first movie was simply "The Void" and that it's what lies beneath that which potentially holds some huge secrets. Could that be a reference to The Sentry's villainous alter-ego or is it simply just a cool sounding name for the Quantum Realm's entry point? We'll hopefully start getting some answers from this Friday...
