Speaking with the director for The World's End, Collider managed to ask Edgar Wright about the recent casting rumors linked to his Ant-Man movie. “No, none of them are completely way off, but I don’t know where they come from,” Wright said, when asked if the rumored contenders are close. “I think sometimes, occasionally…I don’t know where they come from. I think sometimes it’s actually someone themselves starting the rumors because then…yeah. The rumor becomes kind of fact…I don’t know. Some of them are way off. But the truth is we don’t start filming until the end of May, so people on Twitter need to stop asking me, 'When are you going to announce casting?' Like they’re angry! It’s like, 'The film comes out in 2015. Chill out.'” In retrospect, there have only been three names linked to Ant-Man. Paul Rudd reportedly rose above Joseph Gordon-Levitt for the lead role of Henry Pym, while actress Rashida Jones is the only name mentioned for Pym's girlfriend, Janet Van Dyne. So, which do you think is 'completely way off'?
In a separate interview, Den of Geek informed Edgar Wright of the multiple directors and writers that contributed to Thor: The Dark World and then asked how he plans to keep full control of his Marvel flick. “Well, I've written the movie as well, so maybe that's a slightly different thing” he said. “I like to think I've got a good handle on what I want it to be. I think bigger movies, in some respects, do become more of a team effort. I think what they've done very well is create their own sort-of-like mini-genre, much like the Marvel comics themselves have editors. They have writers, pencillers and inkers, and you also have a story editor and the editor of the comics. That's not a million miles away from the studio system so it'd kind of like a team effort anyway. I know that they want me to make the movie that I've written.” What do you think?
Directed by Edgar Wright from his own screenplay, co-written by Joe Cornish, Marvel’s Ant-Man is scheduled to film at Pinewood Studios in Fayetteville, Georgia, and hits theaters on July 31, 2015!
