Aquaman already boasts an impressive cast but it just got even better! Entertainment Weekly reveals that Oscar-winner Julie Andrews will star in a previously unannounced role in the James Wan helmed release. The iconic Mary Poppins and Sound of Music star will reportedly play a mythic character called "Karathen."
She doesn't appear to have any links to the comic books but is described as "an undersea creature that holds the key to Arthur Curry’s quest to unite the Atlantean and surface worlds."
The site reveals that Andrews declined to appear in Mary Poppins Returns as she didn't want to distract from Emily Blunt's take and Aquaman is actually going to go head to head with that at the box office next month.
"We wanted the Karathen to have the voice of a classic British actress, albeit somewhat digitally altered," explained Aquaman producer Peter Safran. "And when we found out Julie was interested and available and excited to do it, casting her was a no-brainer. Who knew that Aquaman would have the real Mary Poppins this Christmas?"
Believe it or not, Andrews hasn't appeared in a movie nearly a decade but has lent her voice to a number of animated projects such as Despicable Me 3 and Shrek Forever After. Are you excited to hear her in Aquaman?
