An Avengers Dynamic: Speculation Only

Why would Thor bother to come back to 'aid' The Avengers?

Another member of this site just posted an interesting article in my opinion. He highlighted that, so far, all of the future members of The Avengers, Thor is (near enough) the only member to not be asked on bored. In a sense the ball is in his court. Most may consider that a ridiculous point to bring to the forefront. But personally it's a point I've considered a lot since watching Thor and the announcement that Loki will play an integral part of the proceedings.

So how would I consider that he will decide to play such a large part in Midgard's defence?
Loki? A close second. No, Jane Foster (I speculate) will be the main reasoning behind his inclusion...and, indeed, Loki's.

Here is where I theorise. I think Jane trying to 'find' Thor at the movies end was poignant. She is searching for him just as much as he wishes to see her again. And, in The Avengers, finding a way to bring him back (which is why I believe Portman will play a part in the Marvel outing) will be more the reasoning for his return. I think Loki's intentions in The Avengers are less about destroying Earth but more about destroying the planet that Thor's lost love lives (high five for alliteration). A juvenile attempt to retaliate against his brother. Thus drawing him out and joining The Avengers in their fight against him and whatever/whoever Loki reigns in to aid in this destruction. Thor knows his brother too well and wishes to stop him or believes he can help him undo the catastrophic mistake he has made in bringing forth the attempted destruction of this realm. But the pivotal reason will be the finding and, ultimately, protection of that who he loves. These will be, i believe, Thor's motives for taking part and less about being part of the team.

This is waffling, fan speculation, brain farting and verbal vomiting at it's highest quality. But it is something I've mused over for the last two weeks. I had to let rip (pffft) and see if anybody else can see where I'm coming from. Or if indeed you had thought likewise.

I welcome all comments (not hideous projected insults directed at one another).

Apologies for no pictures. This is posted via a phone so if somebody would be so kind...

I may be getting a bit ahead of myself, but I think a great idea for the villains in the Avengers 2 would be the Masters of Evil. Between Avengers 1 and 2 they can introduce each of them individually as the villains of the solo movies' sequels, like IM3, Thor 2, and CA2, and using after-credits scenes they can show them teaming up similar to what they're doing now with the set up for the Avengers. Just a thought.

Thor wants to protect Midgard. in the Ultimates he didn't join the Avengers right away either, he basically told them that if Midgard is in trouble, he will be there to help them. thats really all the explanation i think anyone should need. He may not want to join right off the bat, but he's still not going to let anything bad happen to Midgard.

jane foster will not be in the avengers movie but in thor 2, thor comes back to earth finding out his brother is alive and is capture by shield (hence him fighting iron man just like wolive said) then something will happen for him to cooperate with shield and the avengers

Loki wants to gain dads approval - he loves him and wants to proove his worth.

Loki wants the cosmic cube in order to do this. It's on earth.

Earth is in big trouble and Loki won't care who he damages/detroys in the process.

Thor will see it as he responsibilty to stop him.

That the only motivation he will need.

Thor doesn't 'join' The Avengers at the end of the film. He just says you can count on his help. To date no one has joined The Avengers (not even Tony Stark) and I think that will be the main story of the first avengers film - their formation.

@Nunchux
Avengers feels forced? I am sorry mate but 5 movies leading up to avengers each one a success, with great cast, continuity, between the films and lets not forget the announcement for avengers since the first iron man, doesnt feel forced and a cash in to me.If they wanted fast cash they could have made an avemgers movie without the other films with some b list actors and have it done with.Marvel seems to really take it slow and care for their property.I have complete faith.

@nunchux there is a nice interview somewhere on here with Kevin Feige where he specifically says that they have been working on making the best possible adaptations of their characters without worrying too much about tying them to the avengers. they'd rather make sure each stand alone movie is good alone and then worry about connecting them later.

so far I think Marvel Studios is doing a great job with these movies, and I have enjoyed them all very much. I have faith in Marvel Comics, I have been a life long fan, and they have rarely let me down. it'll work out =)

@Orphix. However Stark IS part of the Avenger Initiative. Does that constitute 'joining' The Avengers already?
