Hayley Atwell is gearing up to start shooting Marvel and ABC's new Agent Carter TV series, which will center on the 1940s character she first established in Captain America: The First Avenger and later fleshed out in Marvel's Agent Carter short film. However, after she hits the small-screen next year, Atwell will follow up her Captain America: The Winter Soldier scene on the big-screen with a role in Avengers: Age of Ultron next summer. The English actress told Entertainment Weekly mag' that her inclusion in Marvel's most highly-anticipated sequel came about during an evening with writer/director Joss Whedon. "We went out drinking one night and he was like, 'You know, it would be great to write something for you,'" she says. "And I was like , 'Yes, Joss, it would! It would be amazing!'" Obviously, Hayley Atwell couldn't reveal details about her presence in the sequel or whether she'll appear in a flashback, and/or play the elderly Peggy Carter in present day a la The Winter Soldier. However, set reports back in April claimed she and Chris Evans had filmed scenes inside London's Rivoli Ballroom, where there were several "Lindy Hop dancing" extras.
You may also recall back in 2012 Joss Whedon revealed that one of the best scenes he wrote for The Avengers was a "beautiful and poignant scene between Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter," which took place in the present. Evidently, the scene didn't make the final cut and was never filmed because the writer/director felt the scene was "killing the rhythm" of the superhero blockbuster. In retrospect, it was probably for the best, but perhaps, Whedon has incorporated that scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Anyhow, regarding that ballroom scene filmed in London, Hayley Atwell and Chris Evans were supposedly joined by Paul Bettany, who plays The Vision. What do you think?
Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Cobie Smulders Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, with Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, and James Spader. The film is set for release on May 1, 2015.
