AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR And BLACK PANTHER Win Big At This Year's People's Choice Awards

Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther are two of 2018's biggest movies so it probably won't surprise you to learn that they both walked away with the biggest prizes at the People's Choice Awards...

While Marvel Studios is hopeful that Black Panther (and maybe Avengers: Infinity War) will receive some love at the Oscars next year, things got off to a good start for both movies last night at the People's Choice Awards.

While Black Panther was the favourite heading into the awards ceremony, it was actually Avengers: Infinity War that was named both "The Movie of 2018" and "The Action Movie of 2018." Scarlett Johansson, meanwhile, ended up being crowned "The Female Movie Star of 2018."

Don't worry too much about T'Challa and company, though, because Chadwick Boseman ended up winning "The Male Movie Star of 2018" and The Walking Dead's Danai Gurira was awarded "The Action Movie Star of 2018" for Black Panther.

These awards were obviously voted on by members of the general public so it will be interesting now seeing whether or not the Marvel Studios movies fare as well with critics and various award bodies.

Do you think Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther were worthy winners?

Great I guess.
Can we just admit that there is no chance of a superhero movie winning a major Oscar. The people who run that stuff will never do it. While Heath Ledger deserved his Oscar, I seriously doubt he would have won if he hadn't died, maybe he would have been nominated, but not 100% on that

@dracula - List of actors in comic book movies who could have won Oscars
Gene Hackman : Superman the movie

Jack N.: Batman 1989

Chadwick Boseman: Black Panther

Ian Mcdiarmid: Revenge of the Sith

Ian Mckellen : Lord of the Rings TT / XMEN

Josh Brolin : Avengers IW

Michael Cane : TDKR

Who am I missing?
Granted I am not saying they should have or should win over the other actors in the running in those years, just saying Oscar worthy

Oh yeah and
Michael B Jordan : Black Panther
Tom H. : Loki Avengers
Robert D. Jr : C.A.Civil War

@Imfunnyhow - Ian Mcdiarmid: Revenge of the Sith, you're joking right?

@Imfunnyhow - Robert should've been nominated for the first movie.

ledger would have won alive or dead or comatose. who in that year was going to beat him? he won every award. voters are not all stupid

@Imfunnyhow - Michael cane in TDKR? Really? Boseman in Black Panther was outshone by the villain in the same movie. Ledger is the only comic book movie performance that should have won and did. Others maybe deserved a nomination but not the win

@dracula - agreed on all fronts. It’s truly unfortunate that the only way for a CBM to win is to have an actor dieto gain sympathy votes.

@dracula - No chance? I think that assumes the mindset and sensibilities of the Academy will always be the same. While it seems like they're unchanging, they do shift with time. Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark were Best Picture nominees. I think it's fair to say that the anti-blockbuster/action-adventure/sci-fi/fantasy bias was not as strong as it is now. If the Academy can move in the direction it has, I see no reason why it can't move back in the other direction or in a completely new direction. 30 years from now, the Academy could be very different from the one we see today. In that time, we could see a few more superhero films win Dark Knight level acclaim in an era less biased against the genre. Never say never.

Eh. Didn't really feel it.

OT: Anyone elses main page changing from list to grid view or vice versa?

@Kevwebsz - It automatically is on grid when I load the page, something that didn't happen in the past

@Kevwebsz @AgeofHeroes @MalseMarcel

Yeah, it's been doing that for the last 2 weeks. It always opens the page in Grid view as opposed to List view.

As good as it was I still don't think Black Panther was as amazing as most folks make it out to be. But, glad it does it for people.

@MosquitoFarmer - I only find the final battle between Panther and Killmonger to be the weakest part of the film, it might be the most drama heavy film in the MCU, and with some tremendous scale, it's an achievement in its own right.
