AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Concept Art Reveals A Different Take On Captain America's Wakandan Shields

Some newly revealed concept art from Avengers: Infinity War reveals a number of alternate takes on the shield Steve Rogers wielded while battling Thanos' army in Wakanda. Check them out after the jump...

At the end of Captain America: Civil War, Steve Rogers decided he no longer deserved to wield the shield after lying to Iron Man about The Winter Soldier being responsible for the death of Howard and Maria Stark. As a result, when the Secret Avengers arrived in Wakanda, the hero was given a new set of shields by Black Panther.

Now, Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding has taken to Instagram to share some different takes on those Wakandan weapons, and they all look pretty badass!

After initially sharing alternate versions of the shields, the concept artist followed that with a keyframe of Steve Rogers in action. As he explains, it shows the hero "with the unused shield design I posted yesterday. Doing keyframes like this is a lot of fun trying to capture the intensity of a fight while also showing Cap’s design and potential shield options."

By the time Avengers: Endgame started, Cap was once again without a shield, but Tony Stark would later return the original (which got destroyed while he was battling Thanos).

The shield is currently in the hands of Sam Wilson, but The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will see John Walker take the weapon and become the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Captain America.

Check out these alternate designs below, and CLICK HERE for more Infinity War concept art!

So all I've done with Disney+ thus far is watch 40 minutes of Endgame and the deleted Vormir battle scene. I just want to say that shit was [frick]ing ridiculous. I can't believe it was even considered at all.

@Nebula - there are deleted scenes on Disney+ how does one find them??

@Manmarvel - Click on thing, then go to Extras, then there's a bunch of stuff — albeit only a trailer for some stuff. Seems to be more than was even included on the Blu-ray.

It bothers me that T’Challa says “Get this man a shield” and then we see Cap with these tiny, stabby bracer things instead.

@Chewtoy - They should have at least been able to combine into an actual shield just like the new shield he had in the comics recently

I will gladly click an Infinity War article, despite it coming out 2 years ago, over a Rise of Skywalker article any day.

I find it hard to believe that the most technologically advanced country in the world could not find Cap an actual shield.

When did they decided in the films Cap was done using guns? He used guns in first Avenger and the in the Avengers but then I don’t think he did after that.... just strange is all. I guess the Russos wanted a Batman no guns thing for him

@Twenty23Three - Interesting, has not thought of it. I guess an argument could be made that in TFA and Avengers he is Steve Rodgers a GI Joe type soldier, but in WS, CW and beyond he transitions to a person not of the American War Machine of the 40s, but to a symbol of American freedoms and values.

As Cap said in WS “This is Freedom, it’s fear” which may represent his feeling towards carrying a gun

@Knightrider - very fair point.. maybe should have picked up a side arm during that Wakanda Battle though, maybe could have done him some good against weird monsters haha

@Twenty23Three - Haha although you could say the same about the monsters, imagine if they had guns “Game over, man, game over”
