AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Hi-Res Concept Art Reveals Alternate Takes On Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet

Marvel stuck pretty closely to the source material when it came to bringing the Infinity Gauntlet to the big screen but new Avengers: Infinity War concept art reveals how different it could have looked.

In the comic books, the Infinity Gauntlet has often been portrayed as a regular glove with some gems on it, something which would have looked pretty ridiculous in live-action! Luckily, Marvel Studios found a pretty good compromise with the version we saw in Avengers: Infinity War and Thanos' weapon is now one of the MCU's most iconic.

However, it could have looked a whole lot different!

In a new batch of hi-res concept art from the epic ensemble, we see some alternate designs for the powerful weapon which housed the Infinity Stones and ultimately laid waste to half the universe. Some of these are similar to what we got while others are damn near unrecognisable but they're all worth taking a look at.

To do so, all you guys have to do is click on the "View List" button below for the entire gallery.

Marvel first introduced the Infinity Gauntlet in Thor but that doesn't mean they couldn't make some changes in Infinity War. As you can see, quite a few different alternate design were considered.

The Mad Titan stands tall with the Infinity Gauntlet on hand here but look closely and you'll notice that the Mind Stone is seemingly powering the rest of the glove (it was the last one he collected).

The changes here are somewhat subtle but Marvel clearly spent a lot of time trying to figure out how the Infinity Stones should be housed in the Gauntlet and the way they would then be portrayed.

Try not to get too distracted by how different Thanos looks here because the Infinity Gauntlet is practically unrecognisable here and the Infinity Stones seem to be completely hidden within.

This version of the Infinity Gauntlet looks almost robotic and it's hard to imagine this being something a dwarf would come up with. Despite that, there's no denying that it looks pretty cool.

A total contrast to the Gauntlet above, the Infinity Stones here are much bigger and definitely far more eye-catching. I'm assuming the pink Stone is just a case of artistic license, though!

Either one of these could have worked in Infinity War but I'm not entirely sure that the tiny Infinity Stones would have been the right way to go as they simply don't look that impressive.

The placement of the Infinity Stones here is very interesting and was no doubt considered to make it easier for the Mad Titan to use the glove as a weapon, blasting energy at Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Well, this is different! One of the only designs here to not stick with the gold colour scheme, something tells me that this probably looked a little too much like Iron Man's armour for Marvel's liking!

The power of the Infinity Gauntlet is on full display here as the Mad Titan presumably uses the Mind Stone. Why the rest of the Stones seem to be glowing at the same time is hard to say.

The Infinity Gauntlet looks different here but what's really interesting is the fact that the Mad Titan seems to have tattoos on his head. What significance those have is obviously hard to say.

The Infinity Gauntlet once again looks unrecognisable here but both designs are very cool and I could easily imagine either one of them working on the big screen had Marvel gone with these.

The final design for the Infinity Gauntlet, the movie revealed that Thanos turned to Eitri for help in creating it and you can definitely see some of the Asgardian influences which are on display as a result.

I guess that it’s good to explore different ideas, but I’m glad that they went with the original comics placement of the stones and not the weird, more sci-fi looking ones where they’re just pinpricks of light. The idea of using the stones as brass knuckles made me laugh, as well.

What we got is iconic.

Why are they paying these concept artists!!! These are all a bag of wank...

So glad we got the design (probably) unchanged from previous films...

Love how iconic the Infinity Gauntlet is now. Definitely amongst the most popular items in film culture.

I seriously cannot believe that they really did such an amazing job with Thanos.

They talked a lot about wanting him to rise above the fray of CBM villains and really touch that iconic Darth Vader status and I feel like they really surpassed that in a lot of ways, largely because they not only delivered an epic and imposing villain, but because he was fighting such a huge roster of characters with so much audience investment on multiple fronts, the movie was able to put Thanos in legitimate danger and tense moments where you weren't sure who was really going to win, which made him feel more 3 dimensional than most antagonist ever get to. Truly a masterpiece.

@OmegaDaGrodd - Only villain i have seen to cause such an internet sensation (thanosdidnothingwrong making 4 million users being halfed, inthesoulstone, and most quotable villain i have seen) His motivation is very good, een if padorically, got to some people.

He is just a great villain.

You can tell that some of these were designed just to fulfill a certain limit of concepts, knowing full well that they weren't going to be used.
