AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Screenwriter Reveals Adam Warlock Almost Made His Formal MCU Debut

Adam Warlcok was explicitly teased at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and it seems that stinger was at one point going to provide a pathway to insert the character into Avengers: Infinity War.

Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have revealed that they needed a character to fulfill a specific role in Avengers: Infinity War and they were considering Adam Warlock or the Silver Surfer to fulfill it.  For obvious reasons, Norrin Radd was unavailable, but what about Adam?

Markus commented, "...we didn't introduce Adam Warlock, because it's a massive backbend and you practically have to make an Adam Warlock movie to introduce him. He just can't walk onscreen. So, there was a brief moment where we were like, Ehhh..., and then we were like-- [He points to the movie's poster.] We have that many characters already! And then there were others we couldn't use. Like, Silver Surfer would have been useful, but we can't touch him. Currently."

McFeely echoed his collaborator but declined to name specific character otherwise he might spoil something from the film's plot.  "I don't want to spoil anything, because then if I tell you that they're not in it, you'll go "Oh, they're not in it." But there are certainly a handful of pretty crazy things that we put in for several drafts and took out."

Previously, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 helmer James Gunn revealed that his original treatment for the sequel had a fairly substantial role for Warlock.  More recently he gave an indication that Warlock might not show up in the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, despite the prominent teaser.

@aflynn - I know it's the unpopular opinion but Howard > Don.

@YoloSwaggins812 - agreed a thousand percent. Don is dull

@YoloSwaggins812 - this is popular for sure.

Howard sold Rhodey. Cheadle is fine. Solid. Not bad. But Howard and Downey had better chemistry (really good friends in real life) and Howard's Rhdoey knew how to put Tony in check. Didn't take bullshit. Howard gave Rhodey a grit which helped because he is a soldier.

@YoloSwaggins812 - Don Cheedle may not exactly ooze charisma, but neither does Terrence Howard. Cheedle, at least in my opinion, is more likeable than Howard.

@YoloSwaggins812 - Terrence Howard arguably has the worst voice in Hollywood. He’s a walking meme “Thanos mayne I don’t wanna get in to trouble mayne what stone do you want”
“Vision mayne I’ve got a bogey on my 6 mayne” he sounds like a 6 year old trapped in an older mans body

@YoloSwaggins812 - AGREED! Howard had better chemistry with RDJ IMO & he felt & embodied Roady more than I think Don does. Really wish it would have been Howard throughout this journey.

In my perfect world they would make an Adam Warlock movie before Infinity War. Great character.

Kinda sad that we won't get Adam Warlock in a story based on the Infinity gauntlet/ involving Thanos. Love Jim Starlin's work.
Still excited for the flick and still hoping for a Warlock movie in the future. Even though I don't see how that could work after IW.

I just looked at that one link provided at the bottom of the article, showing a previous page from Nov 2017 where James Gunn talks about Warlock being in Guardians 3 or not, I was STUNNED to see the writer suggest that there are some who consider Guardians 2 to be "among the best superhero films of all time".

what in the [frick] are those people smoking?? I mean, I liked it. It did take me multiple viewings to realize that I hold it beneath the original. But "one of the best all time"? Good lord, that gets thrown around way too easily these days.
