Black Panther
Opening Weekend: $72 million
Domestic: $198 million
Worldwide: $500 million
Reason: I don't really see this coming anywhere near The Winter Soldier domestically let alone $300 million as few have predicted. Black Panther isn't exactly a well known hero so I think this movie will perform closer to the likes of Ant-Man than other A-listers. I also don't see this performing too well overseas. Half a billion is still a good number and Marvel should be satisfied with this number I feel.
The New Mutants
Opening Weekend: $50 million
Domestic: $130 million
Worldwide: 400 million
Reason: I personally am very excited for this film and feel like it will be a game changer for the genre. Unfortunately I know many others aren't interested in this. That being said I still think it will be a modest hit with audiences, especially given its tone and release date.
Avengers: Infinity War
Opening Weekend: $200 million
Domestic: $450 million
Worldwide: $1.35 billion
Reason: There is a lot of hype for this, that is why I think it will have a massive opening. That being said, I feel like a lot of people are overestimating this (like they do with every Marvel movie). Age of Ultron and Civil War weren't as big as the first Avengers movie. Part of that reason is that exchange rates are still horrible now and will continue to get worse. More importantly is fatigue. These big Marvel movies aren't that special anymore. After the first Avengers all the novelty is gone and it's "just another Avengers movie" now. Admissions have decreased drastically in Europe and the U.S. Went from over 30 million admissions in Europe to under 20 million with Civil War. However at the end of the day this is still a hyped Avengers movie and lots of people will obviously go see it. Just don't expect it to be above the first one.
Solo: A Star Wars Story
Opening Weekend: $150 million
4-day opening: $185 million
Domestic: $400 million
Worldwide: $800 million
Reason: I still think it's stupid to release this movie in between a bunch of tentpole blockbusters. Summer is always a disaster for too many blockbusters. And December would have been much smarter and its current release will prevent this from getting over one billlion dollars. Being a Star Wars movie it will still make bank for Disney despite its horrible Memorial Day Weekend release.
Deadpool 2
Opening Weekend: $118 million
Domestic: $300 million
Worldwide: $700 million
Reason: Like most sequels the novelty is gone. Deadpool will be a one hit wonder and it won't be as big as the first one. Also there's too much competition. Still should be profitable for Fox.
Incredibles 2
Opening Weekend: $120 million
Domestic: $410 million
Worldwide: $900 million
Reason: This is a hyped sequel to a very well liked Pixar movie. Obviously it will make a lot of money. Plus lack of animated competition is a plus.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Opening Weekend: $185 million
Domestic: $480 million
Worldwide: $1.4 billion
Reason: This movie is gonna be massive! Especially overseas! Very anticipated sequel to a box office monster. This will easily be the highest grossing movie of 2018 both domestically and worldwide.
Ant-Man and the Wasp
Opening Weekend: $85 million
Domestic: $230 million
Worldwide: $650 million
Reason: The first one was a modest hit. This should naturally increase in box office gross.
Venom
Opening: $73 million
Domestic: $210 million
Worldwide: $600 million
Reason: Venom is a popular character. There is lots of hype. Has a great release date.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix
Opening Weekend: $55 million
Domestic: $145 million
Worldwide: $520 million
Reason: I'm excited for this, but unfortunately this franchise has overstayed its welcome for most people. Plus it has a pretty terrible release date.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
Opening Weekend: $90 million
Domestic: $275 million
Worldwide: $950 million
Reason: This will be big overseas! It will increase domestically as well. I don't think it will hit a billion but it should come damn close to it. There is a lot of hype! After all it is the biggest franchise overseas!
Aquaman
Opening: $65 million
Domestic: $225 million
Worldwide: $625 million
Reason: Will suffer due to the flop known as
Justice League. But Aquaman will still have strong legs due to the December release and no Star Wars movie to compete with.
Sound off below! How much do YOU think these movies will make!
