AVENGERS' Jeremy Renner On Robert Downey Jr.'s Hilarious First Impression Of Chris Hemsworth: "F*ck This Guy"

In a new interview, Hawkeye star Jeremy Renner recalls meeting Chris Hemsworth for the first time on the set of Avengers, and costar Robert Downey Jr. joking that they needed to "take him out."

Though most of the actors had played their characters in previous movies, Marvel's Avengers officially assembled Earth's Mightiest Heroes, giving many of the cast members the opportunity to work together for the first time.

The original Avengers would go on to share many more adventures in the MCU, but it can be easy to forget that they weren't overly familiar with each other back in 2011 when they movie was shooting.

During his visit to The Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shephard, Hawkeye's Jeremy Renner recalled the first time the six main stars of the film were preparing for a scene while in full costume, and Robert Downey Jr.'s (Tony Stark) hilarious first impression of Chris Hemsworth (Thor).

"Yeah, [Hemsworth] is amazing, but we didn't know of him, right? On the first day, we're all parading around in our costumes," Renner explained. "So It looks like it's Halloween. We're excited, but equally feeling ridiculous. I feel like we all knew each other somehow, someway, except we didn't know this Hemsworth guy, because he comes from Australia. And he's the tallest, he's the most good-looking… Downey was like, 'We gotta break his knee. We gotta take him out. This guy's too good-looking. He's too tall, he's too charming, f*** this guy.'"

Downey was joking (obviously), but it's nice to be able to get a fun insight into this early dynamic before they'd all become such a tight-knit group.

Unfortunately, we're unlikely to ever see the OG Avengers together again since only three members of the team are still active in the MCU, but Hemsworth will return as Thor for Love and Thunder, and we're hoping Renner will be back as Clint Barton for a second season of Hawkeye.

Maybe they should have given him the Captain America suit from that movie. Nobody looks good in that clown suit.

RDJ must miss it. I know he has all the money in the world now and everything, but being universally loved and treated like a damn superhero? Must be hard to let it go.

@TheManWithoutFear -

He did it for 10 years.

There must be a freedom to letting it go. He can now do anything he wants because of all the money he made. His legacy is in the history books. Just because its in the past doesnt mean it didnt happen.

@TheManWithoutFear - RDJ always struck me as a guy that was willing to play in the Superhero Sandbox as long as the checks from Disney kept coming in and kept getting larger.

If that had stopped at any point, he probably would of bailed.

Still…RDJ is the single most important person in the history of the MCU and just the best!

@AmazingFILMporg - Yeah i know but i mean the enjoyment of it. You hear about football (soccer) players that retire and they're rich but they're kind of depressed because they miss the adoration of the fans and the screaming crowds.

Dude was Iron Man. He got to be a superhero for 10 years. In my mind, there must be some days where he misses that. Maybe i'm wrong.

@TheManWithoutFear - I don't imagine he misses it. It would be like assuming every person who retires in general doesn't enjoy it, but rather yearns for the tedious work they previously put in.

@IronGenesis - RDJ has a bust of Iron Man on his kitchen counter. He says its because the role was the role of a lifetime. No one would hire him before that. It literally changed his life. I can understand him wanting to move on, but he is well aware that this is his legacy, and unlike many actors, he embraces it.

If there’s a Mount Rushmore of MCU…

RDJ is going first.

@IronGenesis - a Mount Rushmore would be cool. The top four of course. A Lincoln memorial of T’Challa. Keep the Statue of Liberty how it is but add all the scaffolding. A tiny obelisk for Antman. That’s all I got

@IronGenesis - My picks for the Mount:

Jon Favreau, Kevin Feige, RDJ and Stan Lee

@TheWalkingCuban - in world would be cool.

I was thinking more MCU Mount Rushmore of Importance to the MCU

RDJ
Kevin Feige
The Russo Bros.
Chadwick Bowsman

Not sure if that would be my final 4 but pretty close.

@IronGenesis - Spiderman as well, he revitalized the MCU in as much as box office goes, not knocking Shang Chi at all, And I also think that nobody knowing who Spiderman is could be Sony’s way of taking Spidey back out eventually

@lordSTALE - I feel like Stan Lee should get a separate memorial, and shared with Jack Kirby.

The 4th MCU Rushmore head should be Chris Evans.
lordSTALE
lordSTALE - 1/14/2022, 1:25 PM
@CorndogBurglar - That is also acceptable, but Ditko too

I also feel like the Russos, Markus and McFeely deserve some love too

The MCU needs an 8-person Mount Rushmore 🤔

It still amazes me how much the MCU actors' personalities fit their characters. This is such a Tony reaction to meeting Thor.

Lol I love this, & I love that cast. Some of the best stuff from the first Avengers movie were the behind the scenes footage with the main cast just hanging out & doing interviews together. A lot of that chemistry bled into the Age of Ultron mjolnir lifting scene.
