MARVEL'S AVENGERS And SPIDER-MAN Take Place In Their Own Worlds So Don't Expect A Crossover

Marvel Games boss Bill Rosemann has commented on whether Marvel's Avengers and Spider-Man are part of the same world, seemingly dashing any hopes fans had of getting some sort of crossover event...

As you'll no doubt recall if you played Spider-Man, Avengers Tower was a location you could visit in the game, but Earth's Mightiest Heroes themselves were off doing something else at the time.

Since then, there's been a lot of speculation that the PlayStation 4 game will somehow tie into Marvel's Avengers, but Marvel Games boss Bill Rosemann now makes it clear that won't be the case.

"Each game is in the Marvel universe, but they're in their own reality, if you will," he told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview. "Currently, our plan is to keep each game set in its own Marvel universe."

The reason for that is to give creative teams as much freedom as possible, and you can see why it might get a little complicated to combine the two worlds. After all, Marvel's Avengers takes place in a reality which sees the team disassemble for five years, and a Spider-Man crossover would be meaningless for gamers playing on Xbox One or PC.

The web-slinger will be part of the PlayStation version of the upcoming game, though Rosemann has made it clear that it will be a separate, unrelated incarnation to the one seen in 2018's Spider-Man. As for the future of Marvel Games, a Spider-Man sequel after Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a given, but asked what comes beyond that, he chose his words carefully.

"I'll just say we're concentrating really hard on making Marvel's Avengers, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales the best games possible. As the late great Stan Lee said, 'Stay tuned, True Believers!'"

What titles would you like to see from them moving forward?

But is the Rocksteady Suicide Squad game connected to the Arkham games?

@BlackBeltJones - I think it's connected to the WB Montreal Batman game, and neither are connected to the Arkham games

@tmp3 - that's....interesting. Assuming the Montreal game is Court of Owls I wonder if the stories intertwine somehow.

@BlackBeltJones - I'm thinking it is, but I don't expect it to give concrecte answer to the ending of Arkham Knight (might even take place before Asylum if you ask me)

@MalesMarcel - I was never a fan of the AL ending.

I thought they should’ve jumped ahead a few years and shown a post credit scene with Talia being pregnant, Batman extending his family a bit with hints of Huntress, Batwoman and Batwing.

Just teases of what could be and letting you know Bruce’s legacy isn’t some supernatural thing but concrete and very human and it’s growing.

@BlackBeltJones - Whatever Batman game they put out next I just want to be able to play as the Bat-Family.

Maybe have Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Huntress, and Red Hood. Each woth their own perspective of the overall story, with occasional missions that intersect with the other characters. Then they all meet up at the end for the finale, but woth each character playing their own part in the final battle.

As good as the Arkham games were, I feel they missed a huge opportunity with Arham Knight by not doing something like that, considering the whole city was on lockdown and there's no way Batman can be everywhere at once.

Did this really need to be said?

No gaming system gave them away years ago. My Laptop don't meet software requirements. Have fun :)

I thought they said this already. Spider-Man in Avengers is going to be their own version with an original story.

Though i expect a "white spider" skin.

Good. I have very serious doubts about the Avengers game. Wouldn't want Insomniac's Spider-Man linked to a substandard world.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Sincerely, I think they both look fine. Hair is hard for current gen consoles (and probably for next gen), but the faces themselves just look like essentially regular people. No worse than Red Dead Redemption, really.

Scars, dirt, and blemishes are the trick modern games use to sell realistic faces (so much so that I got irritated that Yuna didn't wash that same splotch of dirt from her cheek for the entire Mongol invasion).

But when dealing with modern idyllic supermodels... I mean superheroes, you really can't dirty them up much at all to achieve that affect. Maybe Thor could do with some scars, but generally I think they did fine.
