MARVEL'S AVENGERS Screenshot Gives Us Our First Proper Look At The Villainous M.O.D.O.K.

A new screenshot from Marvel's Avengers reveals a new look at M.O.D.O.K., and the villain is clearly going to be a huge threat to Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the upcoming video game. Check it out here...

The main threat to Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Marvel's Avengers will be M.O.D.O.K. and A.I.M., and we finally have a proper look at the former. He's certainly looking quite a bit more formidable than his comic book counterpart, and there are plenty of weapons there to take on the heroic team.

Recently, the Beta for the game was launched on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and the response has been mixed. While the opening level was praised for its cinematic qualities, the consensus seems to be that there's too much button mashing, too many identical enemies, and a lot of pulling levers. Controlling Iron Man has even been compared to those old SEGA games!

There are plenty of gamers out there who enjoyed the experience, though, and the storyline does seem to be strong (even if the gameplay isn't). Of course, Marvel's Avengers won't be the only place M.O.D.O.K. receives the spotlight as rumour has it he's set to be Ant-Man 3's lead villain as well.

Pulling him off in live-action will be no easy feat, but that franchise seems like the perfect place for M.O.D.O.K., and we can only hope he looks as badass as he does in the screenshot below.

Are you planning to buy Marvel's Avengers on September 4th?

There's something about this game's art direction that I just find lacking.

@Necropolitan - It's like the design equivalent of uncanny valley; it's close to the MCU look, but not quite so they all look kind of off
dracula

Unless they make some serious design changes, there is no way that we are ever getting that in live action, like we never even got robot Armin Zola and they had some cool designs for how to make him work

@dracula -
The main problems here are as follows:
• The head is tall rather than just wide, the forehead is almost always covered by hair with the band almost directly above the eyebrows.
• The body of Modok is completely shown, whereas most versions obscure the body
• Possibly due to the above aspect, the arms and legs seem even less proportional than most versions of Modok, making him look fragile rather than strong. Having the arms/legs come out a larger version of his helmet would have fixed this.
• The positioning of Modok in the frame makes him look pathetic and intimidating, kind of like if we'd only ever seen Thanos from top down
• The multiple arms aspect does not work for Modok, have him control other things, but here it just looks like a poor mans Doctor Octopus clone

Something like this is what they should have went for:

Have him control drones and other things + maybe shoot a laser from his headband - that would be good enough.

The original teaser image has his headband in the correct place also, making the situation even more baffling as to why they gave him an extended forehead. At the moment he gives off 'Leader' vibes with his head and 'Doc Ock' vibes with his mechanical limbs - even then neither carries the weight or intimidation that the actual versions do.

Spiderman gave the arkham games a run for their money.

This looks like something for the PS3

hopefully their next game looks better

@dracula - After playing the Beta it certainly feels like a PS4 game more than a PS3. I think it's got a ton of problems. But it's no PS3 game.

@dracula - No dude. Go play the game. It looks and plays great.

MODOK should look freakish... a head with limbs and no body. That looks like an ugly Funko figure in a Doctor Octopus chair.

People either love this game or hate it. There is no in-between.

@Battabing - I mean, most people will probably be in the middle.
BrothaMajor

@Battabing - it's always like that with Marvel. Too many butthurt fanboys hating Marvel's success over DC. So you get this insane extream exaggerations with Marvel products with them trying to claim it's literally the worse thing ever made without ever even playing it or watching.

LameLuka - 8/20/2020, 4:56 PM
@BrothaMajor - yet no one said anything like that. DC lives rent free in your head by the looks of it.

@BrothaMajor - I don't recall that happening with the recent Spider-man game. That got tons of love.

@tmp3 - It's pretty divisive.

@Battabing - I like it, but I’m not in love with it.... like I was hoping to be. Playing as Iron Man has been pretty [frick]ing cool tho, I can’t even lie. I hope they make a single player open world Iron Man game.

I would pay them the moment they announced it lol

@Kman - I’ve been loving playing as Widow. She’s just so agile it feels amazing. Those guns suck though lol

@Battabing - What i don't understand is that Spider-Man had some really incanny valley faces too and Peter and MJ's faces got worst (well.. not worst.. less good looking) in the game than in the reveal, unlike Avengers where they actually improved the models.

Also i hear people saying Avengers is ripetitive, but so was Spider-Man outside the story missions. You could do so many more-of-the-same random crimes and hideouts before getting bored... or catching pigeons.

@Battabing - Based on the beta, I'm thoroughly in the middle. I wasn't blown away, but it satisfies two guilty pleasures: characters I enjoy fighting waves of enemies and RPG leveling up and looting.

What it lacks, so far, is an engaging story and variety. If this wasn't an Avengers game, I would probably pass, but as a fully 3rd person variation on Marvel: UA, it's a decent time suck.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 8/21/2020, 9:23 AM
@Darth258 - The difference is Spider-Man's combat was actually fun. Avengers gets boring really quickly. You just pound square and do the same combo over and over. Then throw a heavy every now and then. Then throw a special when its available. It gets so repetitive.

Spider-Man and the Arkham games have all different kinds of animations and attacks to keep it fresh. This does not.
Darth258
Darth258 - 8/21/2020, 9:44 AM
@JoeInTheBox - We saw close to nothing of the story though, besides the A-Day and the Hulk/Kamala mission to retrieve Jarvis.

@CorndogBurglar - I thought so too until i started leveling them up and going through the skill tree.
And with Batman and Spider-Man of course there's more combo variety being focused on just one character, but it's just a more elaborate way of pounding buttons plus gadgets. I've fun with all of them but eventually they get repetitive too.
JoeInTheBox
JoeInTheBox - 8/21/2020, 10:19 AM
@Darth258 - That's why I stressed "based on the beta". Even still, I can't see mission variety changing. All missions still have to be playable with every combination of characters.

But like I said, I'm still thoroughly in the middle. Solid experience so far, but nothing I can outright recommend to anyone.
Darth258
Darth258 - 8/21/2020, 5:22 PM
@JoeInTheBox - Yeah, it's nothing groundbreaking of course gameplay wise, but it's still something i was waiting for since MUA.
After that all the marvel ensemble game have been on mobile..

(And that first person Avengers game that got cancelled on PS3 looked terrible, so i'm kinda glad it never saw the light)
