Despite the numerous gameplay trailers and character spotlight profiles released for Marvel's Avengers, there are still plenty of questions surrounding Crystal Dynamics' upcoming action-adventure video game starring Earth's Mightiest. From the all-new original story to the various customization features, the video is our most in-depth look yet at the highly anticipated game.

The video walks us through the overall plot synopsis, which involves a government ban on super heroes following a catastrophic event that forces the Avengers to disband. In their absence, a new organization, Advanced Idea Mechanics (A.I.M.), rises in a pursuit to create a safer world through science. But as the video teases, under the surface is the signs of a conspiracy against heroes.

Marvel's Avengers also features a  surprisingly deep customization system. In addition to selecting your heroes' cosmetic outfits, you'll also unlock gear that can be equipped to further customize your play style. Gear can be powered up by unlocking perks, while skills and abilities -- which will help build your heroes to fit your play style -- can be unlocked by earning experience.

The video also briefly touches on the two different kinds of missions in Marvel's Avengers. First, there are Hero missions; these are the single-player campaign experiences that showcase specific heroes. Then there are Warzone missions, which are played solo or online with up to four players.

Check out the video below for a more in-depth look at Marvel's Avengers.

Marvel’s Avengers is a third-person action-adventure game where you play an all-new, original Avengers story reassembling Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Marvel's Avengers assembles on May 15, 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Google Stadia.

That sounds like something a government would do, alright. People that have saved people/the city/the world multiple times make a mistake? Criminalize them, hire the guys dressed as beekeepers.

@Reeds2Much - Who doesn't love beekeepers, though? They literally supply the world with delicious honey.

@WilliamCipher - That's a fair point.

So, anyone who has Amazon Prime and cares at all about Marvel comics in the 70's through the 90's probably needs to watch this documentary called "Claremont's X-Men". I just stumbled across it tonight and while it's not super-informative or polished, it does have some great interviews with Claremont (duh), but also Louise Simonson, Ann Nocenti, and even some Jim Shooter.

If you have no clue what the context is, I think it's enjoyable to see these folks reliving the glory days, but if you have read the comics involved, it's pretty high grade nostalgia. Maybe there's some shadow of a shred of a splinter of a chance that Marvel's restructuring could mean a return to the more free-wheeling bullpen of old. Feige isn't a money guy, he's a creative guy. If there's any way he could trickle that culture back down into the publishing, it would be amazing. (Probably not though, I'm guessing the internet means that none of these folks are ever forced to hang out like that anymore.)

@Spock0Clock - Thanks man! I'll definitely check it out. The X-Men are my all time favorites. They are what got me into the comics back when Claremont and Lee's X-Men #1 came out in the 90's. I've been addicted ever since and have read everything from the old Kirby/Lee days up through Claremont, Jim Lee, and current.

I might be the only one that says this, but the new run is not pulling me in. It just doesn't feel like the X-Men to me.

Lookin' good! Got mine on preorder for the PS4. Can't wait!

The combat is a bit meh. Another simple 3 hit combo like Spider-Man was. I'm curious of the scale of it. Like is it full Manhattan? Is there level destruction? Would be cool to see.

@Kevwebsz - Personally, I care way more about the exploration and movement than I do combat. If there are big open areas without timers to fly around as Iron Man and expansive and complex freerunning sections, I'll probably end up playing this. But if it's more restrictive, I'll probably give it a pass.

The way it was laid out in this trailer kind of reminds me of the first X-Men Legends, where between missions you would return to play as Magma at the school, then take quests into instanced missions. And even though that wasn't strictly a sandbox, it did offer the kind of more relaxed structure I like (rather than a mission-after-mission linear story or something).

@Spock0Clock - Wow talk about an older game did you ever play the Ultimate Alliance games?

@Kevwebsz - You clearly haven't kept up with the details of this game if you think the combat is limited to 3-hit combos...
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 10/31/2019, 3:19 PM
@Matador - Loved them both, but the X-Men Legends games were still my favorite of those Marvel Diablo clones. Something about how they played felt more arcadey and fun.

@Spock0Clock - Onlyone I didn't get a chance to play and I regret was the 2nd X-Men game with Apocalypse.

This something about this that still just looks and seems inherently mediocre.

@CLTMAN29 -

For me, it's the combat animations that look clunky as hell.

CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 10/31/2019, 8:24 AM
@CLTMAN29 - The combat does not look interesting to me. And I'm still very on the fence with content, and what this game even is at its core. There's something very fishy. Its been hyped beyond all hell for so long, but we still know very little about it. That is never a good sign.

Even people on video game site forums are calling BS on this game. I'm going to wait and see.

I’m still not completely sold on this. I will definitely buy it (since I wanna play every triple A game), but it probably won’t be until it drops in price. I do like the customization and difference in missions, but story and design still looks kinda meh

Looks like it will probably be a technically sound but forgettable action game with a (likely) decent story. If it was a DC game I'm might day one it but I'm more of a casual marvel fan so this will probably be a wait for preowned.
