Avengers 5 was previously known as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, with the title change coming shortly after Marvel Studios decided to take the focus off Kang the Conqueror (a result of the mixed response to Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Jonathan Majors' legal troubles).
While Kang won't be forgotten - one of his Variants is still expected to be the Multiverse Saga's main threat - Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron is now overhauling Avengers 5's script after Jeff Loveness first took a crack at it.
He was allegedly fired from the project shortly after the Ant-Man threequel dropped, while Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton has moved on to Wonder Man and the Shang-Chi sequel.
Little is known about the upcoming Avengers movies (the sixth instalment is still titled Secret Wars), but scooper @MyTimeToShineH is claiming to have learned the identities of five characters who will be key to this adventure.
Those are Captain America (Sam Wilson), Spider-Man, Moon Knight, The Hulk, and She-Hulk.
No additional context has been provided, though it's previously been reported that Spidey will lead his own team in this movie. The MCU's Captain America should absolutely be front and centre, while it's about time we catch up with Moon Knight again after that big Jake Lockley cliffhanger.
How can this movie address that and Moony's place in the wider MCU? That remains to be seen.
As for The Hulk and his cousin She-Hulk, not one but two powerhouse superheroes will be crucial when it comes to turning the tide in what could be another Multiversal War. We're not expecting another season of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, so Jennifer Walters making the transition into the Avengers franchise is a logical next step.
"It's really a classification system for the audience that's following along," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said last year of the Multiverse Saga. "It's to keep track of how the pieces fit in place. Not every film in the Infinity Saga focused on the Infinity Stones or Thanos, and it'll be the same across 5 and 6. But we're gearing up."
"You know, I'm coming up on 23 years at Marvel. That's a long time. It's not quite half my life, but it's almost half my life. [Laughs] Many of us have been together for a decade or more. And we only do it because we are so excited and in love with the potential for what we can do ahead."
"The storylines that weave together through Phase 5 and 6 into Secret Wars and the opportunities that the multiverse brings storytelling-wise, it's a whole new aspect to the MCU," the executive concluded.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars set to follow on May 7, 2027.
