This Marvel Character Would Be In The MCU If The AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Screenwriters Had Their Way

"I say this, and then it’ll be announced," says Avengers: Infinity War screenwriter Christopher Markus on the Marvel hero he thinks will never make the big screen leap to the MCU but definitely should.

Could you guess the identity of the Marvel superhero from the thumbnail?

Out promoting Avengers: Infinity War, screenwriters Christoper Markus and Steven McFeely were asked what character they'd like to see the MCU introduce in future films.  Without hesitation, Markus zeroed in on Aaron Stack aka Machine Man.  "Literally, no one will ever do this — I say this, and then it’ll be announced — I think Machine Man is hilarious.  I like Moon Knight, but you have to handle Moon Knight in a very careful way, or he just becomes negative image Batman. But there are certain runs in the comics where you go, ‘That’s crazy.'"

It's somewhat interesting that Markus namedrops Moon Knight as that's a character Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed on the current Infinity War press tour that the studio is actively exploring.

McFeely offered up his own suggestion, a character that's also recently come up in interviews.  "I’d love to see Namor.  I don’t think they even have the rights to him. But that’s a guy with a big upside, I think."

As if a little thing like not having the rights has ever stopped Marvel...

I’m not familiar with him. For those of you who are - what do you think?

@MediaMan - I suggest you read "Earth X" and "Univese X." Those books place him in the forefront as a pivotal character (and they're some of my favorite books ever produced by Marvel).

@MediaMan -

As a kid I always loved him for his design, and later when Krueger took him and added extra depth as X-51. Markus-McFeeley are so in touch with what needs to happen.

@MediaMan - I liked him in Nextwave and whichever Marvel Zombies book he was in -- but those are far less serious and I'm not sure they entirely capture his character.

@MediaMan - thanks for your replies, everybody. I’m going to look into him. Who knows, maybe it’ll happen someday!

Namor is going to happen eventually. He is too great of a character to just let hang out to dry, especially with the pending FOX deal.

@Saga - Yeah...I think it's some strange rights issue like The Hulk. I forget exactly what it entails though. Wasn't sure if they have the rights 100% or something with the distribution rights.

Does Universal even care about the Namor rights? They might as well just give him home lol

@ThePanther - I would like to know when these rights are up? Like, did Marvel sell the Namor rights indefinitely or something? Seems like Universal has had them forever and not once even considered putting him in a movie. Just seems weird that the rights haven't reverted.

Namor is entertaining even though he's pretty much the biggest flip-floppy ass-hole of a character ever created.

@CorndogBurglar - yup. Namor, Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, and Galactus for the WIN! :-)

Nice header there with Morbius being a killjoy to Machine Man. He looks cool and it’s the first time I hear about him.

They really have to work on the negotiations with Namor.

I thought Subby was at a studio that no one talks about, and not at the same one as the Hulk.
Machine Man is wild! I started reading comics right in the middle of his first series. The fine series with BWS art? Bought it, but never read it, as was the case with most of my comics back then. I bought the collected editions of the Marvel Zombies a couple of years after they came out, and liked MM's appearance in those. I didn't know who Kirby was 40 years ago when I was reading the the book for the first time. I thought, "Who does this guy think he is writing a full page editorial?" I was like: Who died and made him King? :D

Is Namor really that good of a character? A few years ago I started thinking about it. He was a big thing in the Sixties, but there weren't that many heroes in the Marvel Universe. As it expanded, his book was canceled, and he was pushed out of the limelight as better characters were created.
