FEATURE: Russian Hobbyist Builds Replica Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier

Ok, so who wants one for Christmas? You better start saving your rubles. Check out a couple of pictures and a great video of the home-made, but fully operational, contraption in action..

Fans of "The Avengers" will surely enjoy seeing this...a replica of the S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier.

As you can see in the video, it's definitely not a toy. The guy made it on a very large scale, able to float comfortably on the water without sinking, and fly through the air with the greatest of ease. It's really amazing!

Hopefully, Marvel will take notice that this can be done (and done well!) and will develop these to sell before "Avengers 2" is released.

That's better than any model airplane (or copter). The model shows that it's possible for something designed like the Helicarrier to fly, at least in theory. Generating enough thrust is probably impossible, though.

That's pretty impressive, I notice that when it takes off, one of the propellers (rear left I think) is not working, or at least, it's not creating turbulence on the surface of the water! I take this to mean that it could be 25% heaver and still fly, if all propellers are working.

Proof that something like this can actually work...wonder why it has never been built on a large scale...

Is it wrong that I want to throw a tiny grain-of-rice-sized grenade into one of the turboprop fans to try and recreate the film?.

Gorgeous model!. Clever guy!.

we're all aware that this isn't actually a proof of concept for a real life thing right? People would be falling off that thing left and right, never mind not being able to land on it.

It's a super awesome toy though, me wants one.

@Maxi91291:

"Holy cr@p ! My bath-time wouldve been so awesome if a had this when I was little :D"

I thought that also initially, but then I changed my mind as I'd be concerned my willy would get caught in one of the turbofans.
