With the excitement growing for the highly anticipated Avengers movie landing May 2012, I'm sure fans would love to know how long the movie will be. With so.. many hero's competing for screen time. How will director Joss Whedon ensure that they all get their time to shine, create an awesome movie and not end up on the editing room floor, DVD deleted scenes or recycle bin?

The Avengers New York Comic Con 2011 Panel
In the Q&A section a member of the audience ask:
___________________________________________________

19:34 Jay - With such a large movie, I guess my only question is, how long is the movie, because I'm expecting or hoping for 3 hours.

[crowd applause]

Kevin Feige - says the movie isn't finished yet but jokes 7 hours.

2 hours & 30 minutes would be nice, but you never know it could be 2 hours.

It needs to be 2 and a half minimum. Thor has to find a way to earth and they have to capture or convince banner to come in.

It'd be impossible to cram so much in two hours, I'm hoping it'll be 2.5 at least. Heck 3 hours would be nice.

if it's under 2 1/2 hours it'll just feel rushed. I'd rather get my money's worth

It's really going to depend on how much the film goes into each character's backstory. I would say about two hours and a half hours, maybe slightly less, but if the film wants to act as its own thing and not have to rely on the audience having seen the other films, it'll probably be a little longer. I know they've said they want each of these films to stand on their own.

But as always, it's quality over quantity...If the movie is 1 hr. and 45 mins and superb, then great. If it's 3 hours and is mediocre, not so great. We have no idea until we see the script :)

2 1/2 or more but under 3 hours. It'll be hard for them to push a 180min film in the cinema's. They will also prob have bonus scenes (deleted & extended etc) for the DVD.

From what i can tell they arnt really focusing too much on the love interests in The Avengers so that will give them some extra time to play with for the action and the whole 'bringing them together' schtik

2hrs 30mins would be ideal
3hrs i definitely would not mind at all but anything longer the pacing might feel too dragged on...
but then again if theres enough going on, especially action, to keep me entertained for more than 3hrs then i would not be against that at all!
im just hoping its paced nicely with good story telling that flows well and amazing action of course! :)

its def. going to be 2 hours and 45 mins
if not 2 hours n 30
the dark knight was what 2 hours n 40
superman returns was almost 3 hours
the dark knight rises will surely be 2 hours n 40 maybe 50 minutes

Pacing is everything. Certain things need time to develop but there is no room for flabby, dull bits that add nothing and slow the film down.

Phlegmbot - 10/19/2011, 12:14 PM
Seriously? Is this something up for discussion? It should be as long as the script and story necessitate.

Although I like Squirt's answer. That'd be fun!

It would be impossible to put so much in 2 hours. How does Thor come back from Asgard? How does Banner get on the team? How long has Cap been unfrozen? There are too many questions, it should take at least an hour just to organize the team. The film should definitely be around 2 1/2 - 3 hrs. Anything shorter would be very unwise. There are lots of successful movies that have long run times.
