Mark Ruffalo Says Robert Downey Jr, "Sets The Tone" For The Avengers!

The actor once again looks back on getting the role of Bruce Banner in the upcoming superhero epic and comments on working with Joss Whedon and Robert Downey Jr...

To the confusion and disappointment of many, Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark was simply made a consultant rather than an actual member of The Avengers at the end of Iron Man 2. Well, for anyone still doubting that we won't see the actor kicking ass as the armored Avenger in the upcoming movie, the new Bruce Banner, Mark Rufallo, has made it clear that he has a big part to play in the movie.

He didn’t know that he had landed the part until a car pulled up in front of his door at 4 AM to drive him to the airport to fly to San Diego. If no car came, he would have woken up knowing he didn’t get the role. "I was there for two hours and flew to LA back to NY. Talk about a carbon footprint," he admitted in a phone interview.

"I’m not used to that sort of thing. I run a small operation. I’m not used to getting a part and having it subjected to that scrutiny and debate. I like to come in the back door and surprise people. There’s so much onus on it. I trust Joss [Whedon]. We talked a lot and to Robert [Downey. Jr.] I trust that we are going to make it good. Robert sets the tone."

With an all star cast which includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Rufallo as Bruce Banner, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, The Avengers is set to be released on May 4, 2012!

The Hulk should be at least 9 ft tall!!!

webslinger13: I think he'll do great. I wasn't really that impressed by Ed Norton and am not a big fan of his attitude to be honest. Ruffalo seems to be far more down to Earth and genuinely seems passionate and excited for the role. Everything I've seen him in, I've loved. :) In the words of teabag, [frick] Norton.

Hulk is 10 ft., well at least in TIH which was perfect! Everything about Hulk was great in that movie and wouldn't change a thing, just an upgrade on his CGI.... Oh well, we'll see what this guy brings

GUNSMITH- Nice suit choice, I'd love to see that and a quick fighting scene with the Hulk Buster! Hopefully by the time IM3 comes, we'll see an actual HALL of Armor

Long time reader first time poster but i had to speak.
IF anyone really thinks that Iron is gonna sit the avengers out consider this:
In IM Stark was told what to say to the reporters but did a 180.
In IM2 Fury all but pointed a gun at Starks head to get him to save his own life.
This is not the relationship you want on a team where a member will do the opposite of what you tell him. Iron man is a "consultant" because Fury is useing reverse psycology.

JoshW- Norton cared about the role, he practically wrote the script for Bruce Banner! He wanted to bring life into the charcter, sorry but Ed was great!

@lee777..... that hulk armour sounds great!! his normal armour looks a bit unbelievable against the power of the hulk..... and for norton.... well..... banna did a great acting job too..... but stick for a while with one actor if there are coming more hulk-movies!!! every time a different face is more irritating than acting skills or looks....

and @ bigbmh...... theres only one who earned his shield and helmet.....hahooo...well okay 300 earned them.... lol

Scarlett Johansson visited the white house with a new short haircut, possible Black Widow look on The Avengers?

mikefont - 5/1/2011, 9:26 AM
Cmon guys.....Stark WILL be Iron Man in the movie, and will NOT just be a friggin consultant. At the end of Iron Man 2, that was Fury's way of getting into Starks head and let him know that he needs to be a team player if he wants to be a part of the Avenger Initiative! Why have so many people worried about this since IM2?
marvel72
marvel72 - 5/1/2011, 9:28 AM
iron man should be the leader in the first film because he was in the original leader the comic,but if they decide to go down the captain america as leader road i'll be happy with that also.

the hulk height is 8ft tall the more angry he gets the bigger & stronger he gets,but i like him better when he stays round one height.

8ft is perfect.

He doesn't need hulkbuster armor for a Ruffalo hulk. Just offer him a part in a romantic comedy, he'll settle down.

@SpadesTheSparkly

that was both cool and funny! Well done. I just didnt care for the hairy feet line. The Hulk is now a HObbit?

@RamonSuarez

Did RDJ have a lot of creative control on IM2? I dont have the same hangups that so many others do about that film. I thought it was overall great. Not as good as the first but very close.

As far as Avengers go I hope Whedon can pull it off. Cap should be the leader. Captain America is the best leader a superhero team could ever hope for.

I liked Iron Man 2. It wasn't my ideal, but I liked it for what it was. (It was a little slow at times.)

I loved Norton's Hulk, but looking back, I had a lot of issues with it. The fight with Abomination was too short and there wasn't enough "Hulk Smash!". Way too much Bruce Banner and I would have liked for more Hulk dialogue. Just my thoughts though.

Ruffalo will be great.
